Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to stay in Turkey. No minimum validity beyond your departure date is required, but airlines sometimes check for 6 months — carry a printed copy of the official rule if you're worried.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Turkey
Immigration officers routinely ask for a return or onward ticket at passport control. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight booking ready — they check this at major airports like Istanbul and Antalya.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Officers may ask where you're staying, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary. A hotel confirmation or a letter from your host with their address and phone number covers this.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during your stay
Border officers can request evidence of sufficient funds — around $50–$100 per day is a safe benchmark. A recent bank statement or credit card with a decent limit works fine.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you enter Turkey. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding. Renew it well in advance.
90-day limit resets after 180 days
You can stay up to 90 days total within any rolling 180-day period. Once you leave, you must wait until the 180-day window resets before returning for another 90-day stay. Keep track of your days.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents before departure
Check your passport validity (6+ months from entry date). Print or save digital copies of your return ticket, first night hotel booking, and travel insurance. Download a local eSIM or buy a SIM at the airport.
2
Arrive at Turkish immigration
At Istanbul Airport (IST) or Sabiha Gökçen (SAW), follow signs to 'Foreign Passports' or 'Yabancı Pasaport'. Join the queue — it can take 15–45 minutes depending on the time of day.
3
Present your passport and answer questions
Hand over your passport. The officer may ask your purpose of visit, length of stay, and where you're staying. Answer briefly and honestly. They rarely ask for supporting documents, but have them ready.
4
Receive your entry stamp
The officer stamps your passport with the entry date and the allowed stay (usually 90 days). Check the stamp before leaving the counter — if the date is wrong, ask for a correction immediately.
5
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, collect your bags from the carousel and proceed through customs. Green channel if you have nothing to declare. You're now in Turkey.
