Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid only for the period you plan to stay in Macau. Airlines sometimes enforce a 6-month validity rule — check with your carrier before departure.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Macau
Immigration officers routinely ask for a confirmed onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight booking ready at the border.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel confirmation or a letter from your host in Macau. Officers rarely ask, but having it avoids delays.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient money for your stay
Have access to at least 5,000 MOP (around 620 USD) in cash, card, or bank statement. Immigration may ask to see it if you look under-resourced.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Macau immigration checks passport validity from your entry date, not your departure. If your passport has less than 6 months left, you will be refused entry. Renew before you go.
Keep a digital copy of your documents
Save screenshots of your return ticket, hotel booking, and passport info page on your phone. If you lose your passport, these make replacement at the consulate much faster.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Macau International Airport (MFM)
After landing, follow signs to 'Immigration' or 'Arrivals'. There are separate queues for Macau residents and visitors. Join the 'Visitors' queue. Have your passport and return ticket ready.
2
Present your passport and documents
Hand over your passport. The officer may ask for your return ticket and accommodation details. Answer clearly. They'll stamp your passport and you're through.
3
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, proceed to baggage claim, then customs. There's usually no customs declaration for personal items. Exit into the arrivals hall.
