Nepalese passport holders need a visa to enter Canada in 2026. You must apply for a visitor visa (TRV) before you travel — there is no visa-on-arrival or eTA option for Nepal. Plan ahead: processing can take several weeks.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Visa application
Apply for a visitor visa
You need a visitor visa to enter Canada. Submit your application online through the IRCC portal — processing times vary by country, typically 2–4 weeks. Apply well before your intended travel date.Apply for visaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of stay
Your passport must be valid for the entire time you plan to stay in Canada. Airlines and border officers enforce this strictly — if your passport expires before you leave, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Canada
Immigration officers routinely ask for proof that you will leave Canada before your visa expires. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or onward ticket ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a hotel reservation, Airbnb confirmation, or a letter from your host with their address and contact details. Officers may ask where you are staying on arrival.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Have bank statements, a credit card, or cash showing you can cover your stay. There is no fixed minimum, but officers expect enough for accommodation, food, and transport.Recommended
Apply well in advance
Canadian visa processing can take 2–8 weeks. Don't book non-refundable flights until you have the visa in hand.
Biometrics appointment required
After you submit your online application, you'll get a letter asking you to visit a VAC in Kathmandu for fingerprints and photo. Book the appointment as soon as you get the letter.

What happens at the border

1
Apply online for a visitor visa
Go to the IRCC website and create an account. Fill out the application form, upload your documents (passport scan, photos, bank statements, travel itinerary), and pay the CAD 100 fee. Processing takes 2–8 weeks depending on your home country.
2
Wait for approval and submit passport
Once approved, IRCC will ask you to send your physical passport to the nearest visa application centre (VAC) — usually in New Delhi or Kathmandu. They will stick the visa sticker and mail it back. This takes about 1–2 weeks.
3
Arrive at a Canadian airport
At the airport, go to the 'Visitors' queue. Hand over your passport with the visa. The border officer may ask about your trip purpose, accommodation, and return plans. Answer honestly. They may also ask to see your return ticket and hotel booking.
4
Get your passport stamped
If everything is in order, the officer stamps your passport with the date of entry and the allowed stay (usually up to 6 months). Keep the stamp visible — you'll need it when you leave.
