Nepali passport holders can get a visa on arrival in Iran, valid for up to 30 days. You can also apply for an e-visa before you travel, but the on-arrival option is straightforward for most visitors. Here's what you need to know for a smooth entry in 2026.

Active conflict — commercial flights suspended
Iran is currently in an active military conflict with the US (escalated July 2026, strikes near Tehran and Semnan province). Tehran's Imam Khomeini International Airport has suspended all scheduled commercial flights, and aviation authorities (EASA) advise against operating in Iranian airspace at all. Do not plan travel to Iran right now — check your government's official travel advisory and live flight status before making any arrangements. The visa information on this page describes the standard peacetime policy and may not be practically usable at the moment.
Passport validity is non-negotiable
Iranian immigration will deny entry if your passport has less than 6 months validity from your arrival date. Check your passport now — if it's close, renew it before applying for the e-visa.
E-visa is the only reliable route
Do not rely on visa-on-arrival. The e-visa is the official, approved method for Nepali citizens. Apply online well in advance and carry the printed confirmation.
30-day stay is not extendable
Overstaying even by a day can result in heavy fines and a ban from future visits. Set a reminder to leave before your 30 days are up.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at the airport and head to the visa desk
After landing, follow signs for 'Visa on Arrival' or 'Visa Issuance' — usually before passport control. At Tehran Imam Khomeini Airport, it's on the left side of the arrivals hall. Join the queue and fill out the visa application form (available in English).
2
Submit your documents and pay the fee
Hand over your passport, photos, accommodation proof, and return ticket. The officer will review your details and direct you to a bank counter to pay the visa fee in cash. Keep the receipt.
3
Get your visa stamped and proceed to passport control
Return to the visa desk with your payment receipt. The officer will stamp the visa into your passport. Then go through passport control — have your passport and boarding pass ready. Expect a few questions about your itinerary.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After passport control, collect your bags and walk through customs. If you have nothing to declare, use the green channel. You're now free to enter Iran.

Frequently asked questions

No, visa on arrival is only available at major international airports: Tehran Imam Khomeini (IKA), Shiraz, Isfahan, Tabriz, Mashhad, and a few others. If you arrive by land or at a smaller airport, you'll need to arrange a visa in advance.
The fee is roughly €50–€75, depending on the exchange rate and your nationality. You must pay in cash — US dollars, euros, or Iranian rials are accepted. There's no ATM at the visa desk, so bring the exact amount if possible.
No, the visa on arrival for Nepali citizens is not extendable. You must leave Iran within 30 days. If you overstay, you'll face fines and potential issues with future visas.
If you're staying in the airport transit zone and your connecting flight is within a few hours, you don't need a visa. But if you leave the airport or have a long layover, you'll need the visa on arrival or an e-visa.
It can save time at the airport, but it's not required. The e-visa application is done through the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs website and usually takes a few days to process. If you're comfortable with the on-arrival process, you can skip it. Just be prepared for a short wait at the visa desk.
You can provide the address of a friend or relative you're staying with. Immigration may ask for proof, so it's best to have something written down. If you're unsure, book a refundable hotel for the first night.
No, women can travel alone to Iran. However, you must follow the dress code (headscarf and modest clothing) from the moment you arrive. Immigration and airport staff expect this, so pack accordingly.
