Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid only for the period you plan to stay in Tajikistan. Airlines sometimes enforce a 6-month validity rule, so check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Tajikistan
Immigration officers at Dushanbe International Airport routinely ask for a confirmed onward or return ticket. Have a printed copy or a screenshot ready on your phone.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Carry a printed hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host. Officers occasionally ask for it, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during your stay
Border officials may ask to see cash or a bank statement showing you have enough money for your trip. Around $50 USD per day is a safe benchmark.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Airlines check your passport validity before boarding. If you have less than 6 months left, you will not be allowed to fly. Double-check your expiry date before booking.
Overland entry is fine
You can enter Tajikistan visa-free by land from Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, or Afghanistan. The same 30-day limit applies. Make sure you get an entry stamp — without it, you may have trouble leaving.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents
Before you fly, check your passport validity (6+ months), print or screenshot your return ticket and first night's accommodation. Save a copy of your travel insurance policy to your phone.
2
Arrive at Dushanbe International Airport
Most flights arrive at Dushanbe International Airport (DYU). Follow signs to 'Passport Control' — there are separate queues for Tajik citizens and foreigners.
3
Present your passport and boarding pass
Hand over your passport and boarding pass. The officer will check your visa-free eligibility, stamp your passport, and return it. This usually takes 2–5 minutes.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After passport control, proceed to baggage claim, then customs. There's a green channel for 'nothing to declare' and a red channel for goods over the duty-free limit. Walk through the green channel unless you have something to declare.
