RequirementDetailsStatus
Visa application
Apply for a visitor visa
Omani passport holders need a visitor visa before traveling to Canada. Submit your application online through the IRCC portal — processing times vary from a few weeks to several months depending on your home country. You will need to provide biometrics (fingerprints and photo) at a Visa Application Centre.Apply for visitor visaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for the entire stay
Your passport must be valid for the full duration of your stay in Canada. There is no formal 6-month validity rule for Canada, but airlines may enforce it — check with your carrier before departure.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Canada
Immigration officers routinely ask for proof that you will leave Canada before your visa expires. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or onward ticket ready at the border.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a hotel reservation confirmation or a letter of invitation from your host in Canada. Border officers may ask where you are staying, especially if you are visiting for the first time.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Have bank statements or a credit card statement showing you have enough money to cover your stay. There is no fixed minimum amount, but officers expect to see at least CAD $1,000–$2,000 for a short visit.Recommended
No visa-on-arrival or eTA
Oman is not on the eTA-eligible list. You must apply for a full visitor visa before you travel. Don't book non-refundable flights until your visa is approved.
Biometrics are mandatory
Everyone aged 14–79 must give fingerprints and a photo. You can't skip this step. Book your VFS appointment as soon as you get the biometrics letter.

What happens at the border

1
Gather documents
Collect your passport, bank statements, flight itinerary, hotel booking, and any invitation letters. Scan everything as PDFs or JPEGs.
2
Apply online
Go to the official IRCC website (Canada.ca) and create an account. Fill out the visitor visa application form (IMM 5257). Upload all documents and pay the CAD $100 visa fee plus CAD $85 biometrics fee.
3
Give biometrics
After submitting, you'll get a Biometrics Instruction Letter. Book an appointment at the nearest Visa Application Centre (VAC) — in Oman, that's the VFS Global office in Muscat. Bring your passport and the letter. They'll take your fingerprints and photo.
4
Wait for processing
Processing takes 4–6 weeks on average. You can check status online. If approved, they'll ask you to mail your passport to the VAC for the visa sticker.
5
Travel to Canada
At the airport in Canada, go to the 'Visitors' queue. Show your passport with the visa, your return ticket, and accommodation proof. The border officer may ask a few questions about your trip.
