Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport must be valid for the entire time you plan to stay in Iran. Airlines at Muscat check this before boarding. No minimum validity beyond your departure date is required by Iranian immigration.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Iran
Immigration officers at Imam Khomeini and Shiraz airports routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy ready. Airlines also check this before issuing your boarding pass in Oman.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your Iranian host. Immigration may ask for your address in Iran during entry questioning. A booking confirmation is usually sufficient.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Have access to at least $500 USD in cash or a credit card. Iranian immigration rarely asks for proof of funds for Omani passport holders, but having it avoids delays.Recommended
Passport validity is strict
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you enter Iran. If it's close to expiring, renew it before you go. No exceptions at immigration.
Keep digital copies of everything
Save screenshots of your return ticket, accommodation booking, and passport info page on your phone. Also keep a printed copy in your bag. If your phone dies or gets lost, you'll still have proof.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at an international airport in Iran
Fly into Imam Khomeini International Airport (IKA) in Tehran, or other international airports like Shiraz, Isfahan, or Mashhad. Proceed to the immigration hall.
2
Queue at the 'Foreign Passports' counter
Look for signs saying 'Foreign Passports' or 'All Passports'. Join that line. Have your passport and boarding pass ready.
3
Present your passport and supporting documents
Hand over your passport. The officer may ask for your return ticket and accommodation booking. Answer clearly and calmly. They'll stamp your passport with a 90-day visa-free entry.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, go to baggage claim, then customs. Usually straightforward — just walk through the green channel if you have nothing to declare.
