Omani passport holders need a visa to enter Kenya. Apply for an eTA (Electronic Travel Authorization) online before you travel. This requirement started in 2024.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Kenya eVisa (eTA)
Apply for a Kenya eVisa at the official eTA portal before travel. The application takes about 15 minutes and costs $30 USD for a single-entry visa. Approval usually comes within 2 business days — do not book non-refundable flights until you have the visa in hand.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must have at least 6 months validity beyond your intended departure date from Kenya
Your Oman passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date you leave Kenya. Immigration officers at JKIA check this strictly — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding by the airline.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of onward travel
You need a confirmed return or onward ticket out of Kenya. Immigration at Nairobi's Jomo Kenyatta International Airport routinely asks for this — have a printed copy or the booking confirmation on your phone ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Have a hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host in Kenya. Immigration officers may ask for this at the counter — a simple booking confirmation email works.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient cash or bank statement
Carry at least $500 USD equivalent in cash or have a bank statement showing you can cover your stay. Immigration rarely asks for this, but having it ready avoids delays.Recommended
Apply for eTA early
While approval often comes in 1-3 days, delays happen. Apply at least a week before your flight to avoid last-minute stress.
Keep digital copies
Save your eTA, passport, and tickets as PDFs on your phone. Also carry a printed copy of your eTA — some airlines ask to see it at check-in.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for eTA online
Go to www.etakenya.go.ke, fill in your details, upload your passport scan and a passport photo. Pay the fee (around $30 USD). Approval usually comes within 72 hours, but apply at least a week before to be safe.
2
Pack your documents
Print or save on your phone: approved eTA, passport, return ticket, accommodation booking, and insurance certificate. Keep them together.
3
Arrive at JKIA (Nairobi) or Moi International (Mombasa)
At immigration, join the 'Foreign Passports' queue. Hand over your passport and eTA. The officer may ask for your return ticket and accommodation. Answer clearly. You'll get a stamp valid for up to 90 days.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, pick up your bags from the carousel. Then proceed to customs (green channel if nothing to declare). You're in.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. You need an eTA (Electronic Travel Authorization) before you travel. Apply at www.etakenya.go.ke. The fee is about $30 USD. Approval usually takes 1-3 days.
The eTA allows a stay of up to 90 days per visit. You cannot extend it beyond that. If you need longer, you'd have to leave and re-enter.
No. Kenya no longer issues visas on arrival for most nationalities, including Oman. You must have an approved eTA before you board your flight.
Denials are rare but can happen if your application has errors or if you have a criminal record. You can reapply with corrected info. If denied again, contact the Kenyan embassy in Muscat.
Kenya requires proof of yellow fever vaccination if you're arriving from a country with yellow fever risk. Oman is not a risk country, so you likely don't need it unless you've recently been to an affected area. Check with your doctor.
No. The eTA is for tourism, business meetings, or transit only. For work, you need a work permit from the Kenyan Department of Immigration.
Overstaying is taken seriously. You'll be fined about $500 USD per month or part thereof. In extreme cases, you could be banned from re-entering. Leave before your 90 days are up.
