Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply online before travel
Apply for an Indian eVisa at indianvisaonline.gov.in at least 4 days before departure. The fee ranges from $25 to $80 USD depending on the visa type (e-Tourist, e-Business, e-Medical). Approval usually comes within 72 hours — print the approval letter and carry it with your passport.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for 6 months beyond your stay
Your Oman passport needs at least 6 months of remaining validity from your date of arrival in India. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from India
Immigration officers at Indian airports routinely ask for a confirmed onward or return ticket. Have a printed copy or a digital version on your phone ready to show.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Carry a hotel confirmation or a letter from your host in India. Officers rarely ask for it, but having it ready avoids delays at the counter.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can cover your stay
Have a bank statement or credit card showing you have enough funds for your trip. Officers do not usually check this for eVisa holders, but it is safer to carry proof.Recommended
eVisa is for tourism, business, or medical visits
You cannot work or study on an eVisa. For those purposes, you need a different visa type from the Indian embassy.
Keep your eVisa approval accessible
Print a copy and save a PDF on your phone. Some airlines check it before boarding.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for eVisa Online
Go to the official Indian eVisa website (indianvisaonline.gov.in/evisa/tvoa.html). Fill in your personal and passport details, upload a recent photo and passport scan, and pay the fee (around $25-$80 depending on duration and nationality). Processing takes 3-5 business days.
2
Receive eVisa Approval
You'll get an email with your eVisa approval. Print it or save a PDF on your phone. The eVisa is valid for 60 days from the date you enter India.
3
Arrive at Indian Immigration
At the airport (e.g., Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore), follow the 'eVisa' or 'Foreigner' queue. Hand over your passport and eVisa printout. The officer may ask for your return ticket and hotel address. They'll stamp your passport with an entry stamp.
4
Collect Baggage and Exit
After immigration, collect your luggage from the carousel and proceed through customs. If you have nothing to declare, use the green channel.
