Peruvian passport holders can enter Austria without a visa for tourism or business stays up to 90 days within any 180-day period. This allowance covers the entire Schengen Area, so your 90 days are shared across all 27 member countries. Entry is straightforward, but you must meet standard requirements at the border.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must cover your full stay
At least 6 months validity beyond your entry date. Minimum 1 blank page for the entry stamp. Airlines may deny boarding if validity is too close.Required
Return or onward ticket
Officers check this regularly
A confirmed flight out of the country. Immigration may ask to see this — have a screenshot ready on your phone. An onward ticket from a neighbouring country also works.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel name or address
A hotel booking confirmation, or the address of where you are staying. The arrival form often asks for this. A Booking.com or Airbnb confirmation email is fine.Recommended
Proof of funds
Rarely checked
Immigration officers may ask you to demonstrate sufficient funds for your stay. A credit card or bank statement usually suffices.Recommended
Schengen 90/180-day rule applies
Your 90-day visa-free stay is shared across all 27 Schengen countries. Once you've used 90 days, you must leave the entire zone for 180 days before returning. Track your days carefully — overstaying can result in fines and entry bans.
Entry may be refused even without a visa requirement
Border officers can deny entry if they suspect you won't leave, lack sufficient funds, or have a criminal record. Always carry proof of onward travel, accommodation, and funds. Be prepared to answer questions about your itinerary.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Austrian border control
At Vienna International Airport or any other entry point, join the queue for non-EU/EEA passport holders. Have your passport, return ticket, and accommodation confirmation ready. The officer will check your passport validity, stamp it, and may ask about your travel plans.
2
Present your documents
Hand over your passport. If asked, show your return ticket and accommodation booking. Be honest about your stay duration (max 90 days). The officer may also ask about your funds — a credit card or bank statement is sufficient.
3
Receive entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with the date of entry and the allowed stay period. Check the stamp before leaving the counter — if the date is wrong, ask for a correction immediately.
4
Proceed to baggage claim and exit
After clearing immigration, collect your luggage and walk through customs (green channel if nothing to declare). You're now free to enter Austria.

Frequently asked questions

No, the 90-day visa-free limit applies to the entire Schengen Area. You cannot extend it from within Austria. For longer stays (work, study, family reunion), you must apply for a national visa or residence permit at the Austrian embassy in Peru before traveling.
If you stay longer than 3 days in one place, you must register your address at the local Meldeamt (registration office) within 3 days of arrival. Hotels usually do this for you. If staying with friends or in a rental, you need to do it yourself. Bring your passport and rental contract or host's confirmation.
Overstaying is a serious violation. You may be fined (typically €100–€500), banned from re-entering the Schengen Area for up to 5 years, or both. Always track your days carefully — use the Schengen calculator app.
Yes, you can enter via any Schengen country (e.g., Germany, France, Italy) and then travel to Austria. The 90-day limit applies to the entire zone. Border checks are rare between Schengen countries, but always carry your passport.
No, if you stay in the international transit area and do not pass through passport control, you do not need a visa. However, if your layover requires you to clear immigration (e.g., to switch terminals or stay overnight), you must meet the same visa-free entry requirements.
You will be denied boarding by the airline or entry by Austrian border police. Renew your passport before traveling. If you have a valid visa or residence permit in an expired passport, carry both documents.
Austria does not have a specific digital nomad visa. As a tourist, you cannot legally work for an Austrian employer. However, working remotely for a foreign company is generally tolerated for short stays, but it's a gray area. For clarity, consult the Austrian embassy.
