Peruvian passport holders can enter Hungary without a visa for stays up to 90 days within any 180-day period. This covers tourism, business, or family visits. Since Hungary is part of the Schengen Area, the same rules apply for travel across other Schengen countries.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to be in Hungary. Since Hungary is in the Schengen zone, the 90-day limit applies across all Schengen countries combined — not just Hungary.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from the Schengen area
Immigration officers at Budapest Airport routinely ask for a return or onward ticket showing you leave the Schengen zone within 90 days. Airlines also check this before boarding — have a printed or digital copy ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Officers may ask where you're staying. A hotel confirmation or a signed invitation from a host with their address is enough. I've been asked for this at Budapest entry about half the time.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
You need roughly 10,000 HUF (about €25) per day of your stay. A bank statement or cash in euros or forints works. I've rarely seen this checked for short stays, but have proof ready.Recommended
Schengen 90/180-day rule applies
Your 90-day visa-free stay counts across all 27 Schengen countries. If you've already spent time in France or Spain earlier this year, that time counts toward your 90-day limit. Use the Schengen calculator to track your days.
Hungary uses the euro? No — it's forint (HUF)
Hungary's currency is the Hungarian Forint (HUF), not the euro. Exchange money at official exchange offices or withdraw from ATMs. Avoid exchanging at airports — rates are poor. Credit cards are widely accepted in cities.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Budapest Airport (or other Schengen entry point)
You'll go through passport control. Join the queue for non-EU/EEA passports. Have your passport, return ticket, and accommodation confirmation ready. The officer will check your passport, may ask a few questions (purpose of visit, length of stay, where you're staying), and stamp you in.
2
If entering via another Schengen country first
You clear immigration at the first Schengen airport you land in (e.g., Frankfurt, Paris). After that, travel to Hungary is like a domestic flight — no additional border check.
3
During your stay
Keep your passport and a copy of your return ticket with you. You don't need to register with local authorities for stays under 90 days.
4
Departure
No exit check within Schengen. If flying directly out of Hungary, you'll go through passport control again — they may check your exit stamp.
