Apply early — processing can take weeks
Schengen visa processing can take up to 45 days. Do not book non-refundable flights or accommodation until you have the visa in hand.
You must apply in person
Unlike some e-visa countries, Iceland requires you to submit your application and biometrics in person at a visa application center. There is no way to do it fully online.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents
Gather all required documents: passport, application form, photos, flight and hotel bookings, travel insurance, bank statements, and any supporting letters. Make copies of everything.
2
Submit your visa application
Go to the Icelandic visa application center (often outsourced to VFS Global or TLScontact) in person. Submit your form, pay the fee, and provide biometrics (fingerprints and photo). You cannot apply online only — you must attend in person.
3
Wait for processing
Standard processing takes 15 calendar days, but can extend to 45 days if more checks are needed. Do not book non-refundable flights until you have the visa.
4
Collect your passport
Once approved, your passport will have a visa sticker. Check the dates and number of entries allowed. If anything is wrong, contact the embassy immediately.
5
Arrive in Iceland
At Keflavík International Airport, go to the 'Non-EU' queue. Present your passport with the visa sticker, and be ready to show your return ticket and proof of accommodation if asked. The officer may ask simple questions about your trip.
