Polish passport holders need either an ESTA authorization or a visa to travel to the United States. For tourism or business visits under 90 days, apply for an ESTA online. For longer stays or other purposes, get a visa from the U.S. embassy in Warsaw. This guide covers the requirements for 2026.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
US visa application
B-1/B-2 visitor visa
Apply for a B-1/B-2 visitor visa at the US embassy or consulate in Poland. Complete the DS-160 form online, pay the $185 fee, and schedule an in-person interview. Processing times vary by location — check current wait times on the State Department website.Apply for US visaRequired
Valid passport
Must cover entire stay
Your Polish passport must be valid for the full duration of your stay in the US. No minimum validity beyond departure is required, but airlines may enforce 6 months — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure
US immigration officers routinely ask for proof of onward travel. Have a return ticket to Poland or a ticket to your next destination ready. Airlines also check this before boarding.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host letter
Immigration officers may ask where you're staying. Have a hotel reservation, Airbnb confirmation, or a letter from your US host with their address and phone number ready.Recommended
Proof of funds
Bank statements or credit card
Officers may ask how you'll fund your trip. Carry recent bank statements showing sufficient balance, or have a credit card with a reasonable limit. No specific minimum amount is published.Recommended
ESTA is not a visa
ESTA only covers tourism, business, and transit. If you plan to work, study, or stay longer than 90 days, you must apply for a visa at the US embassy in Warsaw.
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you land in the US. If it expires sooner, renew it before you travel.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for ESTA online
Go to the official ESTA website (esta.cbp.dhs.gov). Fill in your passport details, travel plans, and answer security questions. Pay the $21 fee with a credit card. Approval usually comes within minutes, but apply at least 72 hours before your flight.
2
Prepare your documents
Print or save on your phone: ESTA approval, return ticket, accommodation confirmation, and travel insurance. Keep them easily accessible.
3
At the airport in Poland
Check in for your flight. The airline will verify your ESTA and passport. You'll be issued a boarding pass. No visa interview needed.
4
Arrival at US airport
Go to the 'Foreign Visitors' queue at immigration. Hand over your passport. The officer may ask: purpose of visit, where you're staying, how long, and when you're leaving. Answer clearly. They'll take your fingerprints and a photo. You'll get an electronic I-94 record (no paper stamp).
5
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, collect your bags from the carousel. If you have nothing to declare, go through the green channel. You're now in the US.
