Canada entry requirements for Qatar passport holders
Qatari passport holders need a visa to visit Canada in 2026. You must apply for a visitor visa (TRV) before you travel — there is no visa-on-arrival or eTA option for Qatari citizens. Plan ahead: processing can take several weeks.
Entry requirements
| Requirement | Details | Status |
|---|---|---|
| eTA or Visitor VisaYou need this online authorization before boarding your flight to Canada. Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) for visa-exempt nationals | Qatari citizens are visa-exempt for Canada but must obtain an eTA before flying to Canada. Apply online through the official Government of Canada website. The eTA is linked electronically to your passport and is valid for up to 5 years or until your passport expires, whichever comes first. | Required |
| Passport validityYour passport must be valid well beyond your trip to avoid being denied entry. Valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended stay | Your Qatar passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry into Canada. Ensure your passport does not expire during your stay. | Required |
| Blank passport pagesA blank page is needed for the entry stamp. At least 1 blank page for entry stamp | Your passport must have at least 1 blank page for the border officer to stamp upon arrival in Canada. | Required |
| Return or onward ticketHaving a ticket out of Canada helps prove you are a genuine visitor. Proof of departure from Canada | Although not always requested, you should carry proof of a return or onward ticket to show you will leave Canada before your authorized stay ends. This may be checked at check-in or by border officers. | Recommended |
| Proof of fundsBorder officers may ask to see that you can support yourself financially during your visit. Sufficient funds for your stay | You should be able to show you have enough money to cover your stay in Canada, including accommodation, food, and other expenses. The amount is not fixed, but you should have access to funds (cash, credit cards, bank statements) to support your visit. | Recommended |
| Arrival declarationYou do not need to submit anything before you travel; you will declare at the airport. Customs and immigration declaration | Canada does not require a separate arrival declaration form for most visitors. You will complete a customs declaration electronically at a kiosk or via the ArriveCAN app upon arrival. | Not required |
| Extending your stayYou cannot extend your stay without applying; overstaying is a violation. Visitor record | If you wish to stay longer than the standard 6-month visitor period, you must apply for an extension before your current status expires. Extensions are not automatic and require a separate application with a fee. | Not required |

Transiting through Canada
Qatari citizens transiting through a Canadian airport to a third country generally require a visitor visa (TRV) unless they qualify for the Transit Without Visa (TWOV) program. TWOV is only available to nationals of certain countries and Qatar is not currently on that list. Therefore, you must obtain a TRV before transiting.
- Holders of a valid Canadian visa (even if for another purpose) do not need a separate transit visa.
- Diplomatic or official passport holders may have different requirements.
