Qatari passport holders need a visa to enter the Netherlands for any purpose, including tourism. You must apply for a Schengen visa at the Dutch embassy or consulate before you travel. This requirement remains in effect for 2026.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Visa application
Apply for a Schengen visa
You need a Schengen visa before traveling to the Netherlands. Apply at the Dutch embassy or consulate in Qatar, or through a visa application center like VFS Global. Processing takes at least 15 calendar days — submit your application no later than 6 months and at least 15 days before departure.Apply for Schengen visaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 3 months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen area
Your passport must have been issued within the last 10 years and have at least two blank pages. The 3-month validity rule applies to the entire Schengen zone — not just the Netherlands.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from the Schengen area
Immigration officers at Schiphol Airport routinely ask for a return or onward ticket showing you leave the Schengen zone within your visa's validity. A bus or train ticket to a non-Schengen country also works.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Have a confirmed hotel reservation for every night of your stay, or a signed invitation letter from a host in the Netherlands. Immigration may ask to see it at the border.Recommended
Proof of funds
Bank statements or cash
Show you have at least €55 per person per day for your stay. A recent bank statement or a sponsor letter with their bank statement works. Immigration rarely checks this for short visits, but have it ready.Recommended
Visa required — apply well in advance
Qatar passport holders cannot enter the Netherlands without a pre-approved Schengen visa. Start the application process at least 6–8 weeks before your planned departure. Appointment slots fill quickly, especially during peak travel seasons.
Transit at Schiphol also requires a visa
Even if you're only changing planes at Amsterdam Schiphol and staying airside, you still need a Schengen visa. There is no transit exemption for Qatari nationals.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents
Gather all required documents: passport, photos, travel insurance, flight and hotel bookings, bank statements, and the completed visa application form. Make copies of everything.
2
Book an appointment
Schedule an appointment at the Dutch embassy in Doha or the nearest visa application centre (VFS Global). Slots fill up weeks in advance, especially in summer.
3
Submit your application in person
Attend your appointment with all original documents and copies. You'll be interviewed briefly and your biometrics (photo and fingerprints) will be taken. Pay the visa fee at this point.
4
Wait for processing
Standard processing takes 15 calendar days. It can extend to 45 days if additional checks are needed. Track your application online using the reference number you receive.
5
Collect your passport
Once approved, collect your passport from the visa centre or have it couriered to you. Check the visa sticker carefully: dates, name spelling, and number of entries.
6
Travel and present documents at border
At Schiphol Airport or any Schengen entry point, present your passport with the visa sticker. The officer may ask for your return ticket and accommodation proof. Answer clearly and briefly.
