Serbian passport holders must obtain a visa before traveling to the United Kingdom for any purpose, including tourism, business, or family visits. There is no visa-on-arrival or eVisa option for Serbian citizens — you must apply through the UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) system. The process involves an online application, an in-person biometric appointment, and a decision that can take several weeks, so plan accordingly.

What happens at the border

1
Complete the online application
Go to gov.uk/visas-immigration and fill out the visa application form for a Standard Visitor visa. You'll need to create an account, answer questions about your trip, and upload your supporting documents. Take your time — mistakes can delay the process.
2
Pay the visa fee
After submitting the form, you'll be prompted to pay the £115 fee online using a credit or debit card. Keep the payment confirmation — you'll need it for your appointment.
3
Book and attend biometric appointment
Book an appointment at the UK Visa Application Centre in Belgrade (address: Bulevar kralja Aleksandra 73). Bring your passport, appointment confirmation, and any original documents you haven't uploaded. At the appointment, you'll give fingerprints and a photo. The staff will also check your documents.
4
Wait for the decision
Processing times vary, but standard visitor visas typically take 3–4 weeks. You can track your application online using the reference number from your appointment. If approved, your passport will be returned with a visa vignette sticker inside.
5
Travel to the UK
When you arrive in the UK (e.g., Heathrow, Gatwick, or Manchester), join the 'Non-EU' queue at passport control. Have your passport with the vignette ready, and be prepared to answer questions about your trip. The vignette is your entry clearance — you'll be stamped in for the duration of your stay.

Frequently asked questions

Standard processing for a visitor visa is typically 3–4 weeks, but it can take longer during peak seasons (summer, Christmas). You can pay extra for priority processing (5 working days) or super priority (next day) if available at the Belgrade VAC — check the UKVI website for current options and fees.
You must apply online at gov.uk/visas-immigration, but you also need to attend an in-person appointment at the UK Visa Application Centre in Belgrade to provide biometrics. There is no eVisa option for Serbian citizens — the online form is just the first step.
A standard visitor visa allows a maximum stay of 6 months per visit. You cannot extend it while in the UK. If you need to stay longer, you'd have to leave and apply for a different visa type.
Yes. You need to show that you can support yourself during your stay without working in the UK. Bank statements for the last 6 months are standard. There's no fixed amount, but you should have enough to cover accommodation, food, and activities — roughly £50–£100 per day is a safe guideline.
No. A UK visa only allows entry to the UK. It does not grant access to the Schengen Area or Ireland. If you plan to visit other European countries, you'll need separate visas (e.g., a Schengen visa for most EU countries).
You'll receive a refusal letter explaining the reasons. You can reapply, but you'll need to address the issues (e.g., provide more evidence of ties to Serbia). The £115 fee is not refunded. There's no formal appeal for visitor visas — you just reapply with a stronger application.
Yes, if you're a Serbian citizen and you need to pass through UK border control (e.g., to switch airports or leave the transit area), you need a visitor visa. However, if you stay airside (don't pass through immigration) and have a confirmed onward ticket, you may be exempt under the UK's 'Transit Without Visa' scheme — but this is only for certain nationalities. Check with your airline before assuming you're exempt.
