Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire 15-day stay in Iran. Airlines at Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport will check this before boarding. No minimum validity beyond your departure date is required by Iranian immigration.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Iran
Immigration officers at Imam Khomeini International Airport routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed copy or a digital version on your phone ready. Airlines also check this before issuing your boarding pass in Belgrade.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host. Immigration may ask for your first night's address on arrival. Booking.com or similar confirmation works fine.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Have at least €500 or equivalent in cash or a credit card statement ready. Iranian immigration rarely asks for this for a 15-day stay, but budget airlines like Turkish Airlines or Pegasus may check before boarding.Recommended
Visa-free only for 15 days
The visa-free entry is strictly for stays up to 15 days. It cannot be extended. If you plan to stay longer, apply for a visa at an Iranian embassy before you travel.
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months after the day you enter Iran, not your departure date. Check your passport expiry before booking flights.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents
Before you travel, ensure your passport has at least 6 months validity, book your return ticket, confirm your first night's accommodation, and consider getting travel insurance and an eSIM.
2
Arrive at an Iranian airport
You'll land at Imam Khomeini International Airport (IKA) in Tehran or another international airport. Follow signs to 'Foreign Passports' or 'Visa on Arrival' — but since you're visa-free, head directly to passport control.
3
Pass through immigration
At the immigration counter, present your passport and return ticket (if asked). The officer will stamp your passport with a 15-day visa-free entry. No visa fee is charged.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After clearing immigration, proceed to baggage claim, then customs. You're free to enter Iran.
