Visa on arrival
Visa on arrival
You get a visa on arrival at Queen Alia International Airport and other land/sea borders. Cost is 40 JOD (about $56 USD) for a single-entry visa valid for 30 days. Have cash in Jordanian dinars or USD ready — the ATM at the airport sometimes runs out.Apply onlineRequired
Valid passport
Passport validity
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your arrival date in Jordan. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you won't board.Required
Return or onward ticket
Return ticket
Immigration officers routinely ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or a ticket to your next destination ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking
Border officers may ask where you're staying. A hotel confirmation or a letter from a host with their contact details works. I've been asked twice at Queen Alia — better to have it.Recommended
Free visa if entering via Aqaba
If you fly into Aqaba Airport or cross the land border from Eilat, you can get a free single-entry visa valid for 30 days — but only if you stay within the Aqaba Special Economic Zone. If you plan to visit Petra, Amman, or the Dead Sea, you'll need the standard 40 JOD visa on arrival.
Visa on arrival is not extendable
The visa you get on arrival is a single-entry visa valid for up to 30 days. It cannot be extended. If you need to stay longer, you must leave Jordan and re-enter, or apply for a different visa type before you travel. Overstaying can result in fines and future entry issues.

What happens at the border

1
Land at Queen Alia International Airport (AMM) or a land border
After deplaning, follow signs to 'Visa on Arrival' counters before immigration. At land borders like the King Hussein Bridge, the process is similar — look for the visa payment window first.
2
Pay the visa fee and get your receipt
Hand over your passport and the fee (40 JOD). The officer will issue a receipt. Keep it — you'll need it for the next step.
3
Proceed to immigration control
Present your passport, the visa receipt, and your boarding pass. The officer will stamp the visa sticker into your passport. Answer any questions (purpose of visit, length of stay) briefly and honestly.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After clearing immigration, grab your bags from the carousel and walk through customs. Green channel if you have nothing to declare. Done.

Frequently asked questions

Yes — Queen Alia International Airport (AMM), Aqaba Airport, and all land borders (King Hussein Bridge, Sheikh Hussein Bridge, Wadi Araba) offer visa on arrival for Serbian passport holders. The process is the same everywhere: pay the fee, get the stamp.
As of 2026, a single-entry visa costs 40 Jordanian Dinar (JOD). That's about 56 USD or 52 EUR. You can pay in JOD, USD, or EUR — but JOD is easiest. Have exact change if possible; change may be limited at busy times.
No — the visa on arrival is not extendable. You get a single-entry visa valid for up to 30 days. If you need to stay longer, you must leave Jordan and re-enter (or apply for a different visa type before travel). Overstaying can result in fines.
Technically yes — immigration may ask to see a return or onward ticket. In practice, it's not always checked, but have a screenshot or printed copy ready. If you don't have one, you could be denied boarding by your airline.
If you enter via Aqaba (airport or land border from Eilat), you can get a free single-entry visa valid for 30 days — but only if you stay in the Aqaba Special Economic Zone. If you plan to travel elsewhere in Jordan, you'll need the standard paid visa on arrival (40 JOD).
No — the visa on arrival fee must be paid in cash. ATMs are available after immigration at Queen Alia Airport, but it's smarter to bring JOD, USD, or EUR with you. Some counters may accept cards, but don't count on it.
You will be denied boarding by the airline or refused entry by Jordanian immigration. The 6-month validity rule is strictly enforced. Renew your passport before traveling.
