Apply early — don't wait
e-Visa processing can take up to 5 business days. Don't leave it to the last minute. Also, the official site is etakenya.go.ke — avoid third-party sites that charge extra fees.
Keep copies of everything
Print your e-Visa, keep a digital copy on your phone, and have your return ticket and accommodation confirmation easily accessible. Immigration at JKIA can be busy — being prepared saves time.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for e-Visa online
Go to etakenya.go.ke. Fill in the application, upload a passport photo and your passport data page, and pay the fee (around $51 USD for a single-entry tourist visa). Processing takes 2–5 business days.
2
Receive and print your e-Visa
Once approved, you'll get an e-Visa by email. Print a copy — you'll need to show it at check-in and on arrival in Kenya.
3
Arrive at JKIA (Nairobi) or Moi International (Mombasa)
At immigration, present your passport, printed e-Visa, return ticket, and accommodation confirmation. The officer may ask a few questions (purpose of visit, where you're staying). Answer clearly. You'll get a stamp allowing up to 90 days.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, pick up your bags and go through customs. If you have nothing to declare, use the green channel.
