Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus

Valid passport
6 months validity required
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure date from Kenya. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of onward travel
Immigration officers routinely ask for a return or onward ticket at Nairobi's Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. Have a printed or digital copy of your outbound flight booking ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host in Kenya. Officers at immigration may ask where you are staying, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show sufficient cash or card
Have at least 500 USD in cash or a credit card with available balance. Immigration may ask to see proof you can support yourself during your stay, though this is not always checked.Recommended
Apply early — don't wait
e-Visa processing can take up to 5 business days. Don't leave it to the last minute. Also, the official site is etakenya.go.ke — avoid third-party sites that charge extra fees.
Keep copies of everything
Print your e-Visa, keep a digital copy on your phone, and have your return ticket and accommodation confirmation easily accessible. Immigration at JKIA can be busy — being prepared saves time.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for e-Visa online
Go to the official Kenya e-Visa website (etakenya.go.ke). Fill in the application, upload a passport photo and your passport data page, and pay the fee (around $51 USD for a single-entry tourist visa). Processing takes 2–5 business days.
2
Receive and print your e-Visa
Once approved, you'll get an e-Visa by email. Print a copy — you'll need to show it at check-in and on arrival in Kenya.
3
Arrive at JKIA (Nairobi) or Moi International (Mombasa)
At immigration, present your passport, printed e-Visa, return ticket, and accommodation confirmation. The officer may ask a few questions (purpose of visit, where you're staying). Answer clearly. You'll get a stamp allowing up to 90 days.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, pick up your bags and go through customs. If you have nothing to declare, use the green channel.

Frequently asked questions

Processing usually takes 2–5 business days. Apply at least a week before your trip to be safe. The official site is etakenya.go.ke.
A single-entry tourist e-Visa costs around $51 USD. Fees are paid online during the application.
Yes, you can apply for a visa extension at the Department of Immigration in Nairobi. Extensions are granted in 3-month increments, but you'll need a valid reason. The cost is about $50 USD per extension.
Kenya requires a yellow fever vaccination certificate if you're arriving from a country with risk of yellow fever. Serbia is not a risk country, so you won't need it if you travel directly. But if you've been in any African or South American country with yellow fever before Kenya, you'll need the shot and the yellow card.
You can apply for a visa on arrival at JKIA or Moi International, but it's more expensive ($100 USD) and takes longer. The e-Visa is cheaper and faster — do it online before you go.
No. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your entry date. If it's close to expiring, renew it first.
It's not a formal requirement, but immigration officers may ask how you'll support yourself during your stay. Having a credit card or a few hundred dollars in cash (or a bank statement) is a good idea.
