Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply online before travel
Apply for a Cambodia eVisa at evisa.gov.kh. The fee is $30 USD, and processing takes 3 working days. You receive an approval letter by email — print it and present it on arrival.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond arrival
Your passport must have at least 6 months of remaining validity from your date of entry into Cambodia. Airlines check this before boarding — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for visa on arrival
Immigration officers at Phnom Penh and Siem Reap airports routinely ask for proof of a return or onward flight within 30 days. Have a printed itinerary or digital booking ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel confirmation or a letter from your host. Immigration rarely asks, but budget airlines like AirAsia sometimes check before issuing a boarding pass.Recommended
Proof of funds
Cash or bank statement
Have at least $500 USD in cash or a bank statement showing sufficient funds. Immigration rarely checks, but you may need to show it if you look under-resourced.Recommended
Bring exact USD cash
The visa counter charges $30 for tourist or $35 for ordinary visa — and they don't give change. Bring small bills. ATMs dispense USD in Cambodia, but the visa counter is before you exit the airport.
Visa on arrival vs e-Visa
You can also apply for an e-Visa online before travel ($36 + processing fee). It's valid at the same airports and a few land borders. The visa on arrival is simpler and cheaper — just show up with cash and a photo.

What happens at the border

1
Fill out the arrival form
On the plane or at the airport, grab a Cambodia Arrival Card and Customs Declaration. Fill it out in English — name, passport number, flight, hotel address.
2
Go to the Visa on Arrival counter
After deplaning, follow signs to 'Visa on Arrival' (usually before immigration). Hand over your passport, the completed form, one photo, and the fee in USD. They'll process it in 5–10 minutes.
3
Proceed to immigration
Once you have the visa sticker in your passport, join the immigration queue. Present your passport with the visa, the arrival card, and your boarding pass. They'll stamp you in.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, grab your bags from the carousel, then hand the customs declaration to the officer at the exit. That's it — you're in Cambodia.

Frequently asked questions

Yes, at all international airports (Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, Sihanoukville) and most major land border crossings from Thailand, Vietnam, and Laos. Some smaller land crossings may not offer it — check ahead if you're planning an overland entry.
The tourist visa is valid for 30 days from the date of entry. It cannot be extended. If you want to stay longer, get the ordinary visa ($35) which can be extended once for an additional 30 days at an immigration office in Cambodia.
The tourist visa (sticker says 'T') is not extendable. The ordinary visa (sticker says 'E') can be extended once for 30 days at the Immigration Department in Phnom Penh or through a travel agent. Cost is around $50–$60 including agent fees.
No problem — most airports have a photo booth near the visa counter. It costs about $2–$3 and takes a few minutes. Just bring small USD bills.
Technically yes — immigration can ask for proof of onward travel. In practice, it's rarely checked at the visa counter, but airlines may require it before boarding. Always have a screenshot or printed copy handy.
No — the visa fee is strictly in US dollars. They won't accept riel, euros, or any other currency. Bring crisp, undamaged USD bills. Old or torn notes may be refused.
You'll be fined $10 per day of overstay, payable at immigration when you leave. Overstays of more than 30 days can result in a blacklist. Avoid it by extending or leaving on time.
