Visa-free for 45 days
Russian passport holders can enter Vietnam without a visa for up to 45 days. No application, no fee, no paperwork before you go.
Passport validity is critical
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you enter Vietnam. Airlines check this before you board. If it's close, renew first.
No extension possible
The 45-day visa-free stay cannot be extended. If you want to stay longer, you must leave and re-enter, or get a visa beforehand.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at the airport
At any international airport in Vietnam (Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, etc.), follow signs to 'Immigration' or 'Arrivals'. There are separate lanes for Vietnamese citizens and foreigners. Join the 'Foreign Passports' queue.
2
Present your documents
Hand over your passport (with at least 6 months validity and 1 blank page) and your boarding pass. The officer may ask for your return ticket and hotel booking. Have them ready on your phone.
3
Get your entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with a 45-day visa-free entry. No fee is charged. The process usually takes 1–2 minutes. Keep the stamp visible — you'll need it when you leave.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, proceed to baggage claim, then customs. There's nothing else to do — you're free to enter Vietnam.

Frequently asked questions

No. The visa-free entry is not extendable. If you want to stay longer, you must leave Vietnam (e.g., a quick trip to Cambodia or Thailand) and re-enter, or apply for a visa before you travel. Overstaying can result in fines of around $15–$30 per day and possible deportation.
You will be denied boarding by the airline and refused entry by Vietnamese immigration. Renew your passport before traveling. There are no exceptions.
No. Vietnam does not require an arrival declaration for Russian passport holders under the visa-free program. Just show your passport and boarding pass.
The 45-day visa-free entry is a single-entry permit. If you leave Vietnam and want to return, you'll need to re-enter under a new visa-free period — but you must have a valid passport and onward ticket each time.
Overstaying is taken seriously. You'll be fined approximately 500,000 VND (about $20) per day for the first few days, then higher amounts. You may also be banned from re-entering Vietnam for a period. Always leave on time or apply for a visa extension before your 45 days are up (though extensions are not available for visa-free entries).
No need — you already get visa-free entry for 45 days. If you need to stay longer than 45 days, you must apply for a visa at a Vietnamese embassy or consulate before traveling. There is no visa on arrival for tourism purposes.
No. Vietnam does not require Russian passport holders to show proof of funds at immigration. However, if you look like you might be working illegally or staying without means, an officer could ask. Having a credit card and a few hundred dollars in cash is sensible.
