Visa on arrival
Visa on arrival at Kathmandu airport or land borders
Get your visa on arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport or at designated land border crossings. Fill in the arrival form on the plane or at the counter, pay the fee in cash (USD, EUR, or NPR), and hand over two passport photos. The visa is issued on the spot — no pre-approval needed.Apply onlineRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 6 months from date of entry
Your passport must have at least 6 months of remaining validity from the day you arrive in Nepal. Airlines check this before boarding — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for visa on arrival
Immigration officers at Kathmandu airport routinely ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or a ticket to your next destination ready. Without it, you may be refused entry.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Carry a printed hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host. Immigration may ask for it during the visa-on-arrival process, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient cash or bank statement
Have at least $200 USD in cash or a recent bank statement showing adequate funds. Immigration officers rarely ask, but it is better to be prepared — especially if you are staying for more than a few weeks.Recommended
Cash only at visa counter
No cards, no mobile payments. Bring USD in small denominations ($5, $10, $20). ATMs are available only after you pass immigration.
eSIM saves time at the airport
Nepal airport SIM queues can be long. An Airalo eSIM activates the moment you land — no paperwork, no waiting.

What happens at the border

1
Land at Tribhuvan International Airport (Kathmandu)
After deplaning, follow signs to 'Visa on Arrival'. Use self-service kiosks to fill in your details, print a receipt, then take it to the counter. Pay the fee, get your visa sticker, and proceed to immigration.
2
Fill out the arrival form
At the kiosk or on paper — you'll need your passport number, flight details, and address in Nepal. Keep the receipt.
3
Pay the visa fee
Cash only at the counter. USD is easiest. Fees: 15 days = $30, 30 days = $50, 90 days = $125 (as of 2025).
4
Get your visa sticker and pass immigration
The officer will stick the visa in your passport and stamp you in. Keep the departure card they give you — you'll need it when leaving.
