RequirementDetailsStatus
Schengen visa application
Apply before travel
You need a Schengen visa to enter Greece. Apply at the Greek embassy or consulate in your country of residence. Submit your application at least 15 days before your trip, but no earlier than 6 months before. The visa costs €80 for adults, €40 for children 6–12, and is free for children under 6.Apply for Schengen visaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 3 months beyond your departure from Schengen area
Your passport must be valid for at least 3 months after your planned departure from the Schengen zone. It must have been issued within the last 10 years. Carry a photocopy of the bio page separately.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of onward travel
Immigration officers at Greek airports will ask for a return or onward ticket. This applies to all Schengen entry points. Have a printed or digital copy ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a hotel reservation, hostel booking, or a letter of invitation from your host in Greece. Officers may ask to see it during passport control.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Have bank statements, cash, or a credit card showing you have at least €50 per day of your stay. Officers rarely ask, but it's better to have proof ready.Recommended
No visa on arrival or e-visa
Greece does not offer visa on arrival or an e-visa for Rwandan passport holders. You must get a Schengen visa from the embassy before you travel. Arriving without one means you'll be refused entry and sent back.
Schengen area rules
A Greek visa lets you travel to all 27 Schengen countries (France, Germany, Italy, etc.) for up to 90 days within any 180-day period. But you must enter Greece first or spend the most time there.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for a Schengen visa at the Greek embassy
Submit your application at the Greek embassy in Kigali (or the embassy handling Greece in your region). You'll need to book an appointment, pay the fee, and provide biometrics (fingerprints and photo). Processing typically takes 15–30 days.
2
Prepare your documents
Gather your passport, application form, photos, flight and hotel bookings, insurance, and bank statements. Make copies of everything — the embassy will keep your originals and return your passport with the visa sticker.
3
Attend the visa interview
At your appointment, you'll submit documents and answer questions about your trip — purpose, itinerary, funds. Be honest and specific. The officer may ask for additional documents on the spot.
4
Collect your passport with visa
Once approved, your passport will be returned with the visa sticker. Check the dates and validity carefully. If denied, you'll receive a formal refusal letter with reasons.
5
Arrive in Greece and pass immigration
At the airport (usually Athens Eleftherios Venizelos or Thessaloniki), present your passport with visa, return ticket, and accommodation proof. The officer may ask about your plans. Answer clearly. You'll get an entry stamp — keep it safe.
