Rwandan passport holders need an eVisa to enter Tajikistan. The process is entirely online: apply before you travel, and the approved visa arrives by email. As of 2026, this is the standard entry method for tourism and short business visits.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus

Valid passport
Must be valid for entire stay
Your passport must be valid for at least the duration of your stay in Tajikistan. No minimum 6-month validity is required beyond your departure date, but airlines may enforce their own rules — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of onward travel
Immigration officers at Dushanbe International Airport routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight itinerary ready to show at the border.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Carry a printed hotel reservation or an invitation letter from your host in Tajikistan. Immigration may ask where you're staying, especially if you arrive without a pre-booked hotel.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show sufficient cash or card
Border officers may ask to see proof you can support yourself during your stay. Carry at least $50 USD per day in cash or have a credit card statement ready.Recommended
eVisa is mandatory — no visa on arrival
Rwandan passport holders cannot get a visa on arrival at Dushanbe airport. You must have an approved eVisa before you fly. Apply at least a week in advance to avoid last-minute stress.
Register if staying more than 10 days
If your trip is longer than 10 days, you must register with the local police (OVIR). Hotels usually handle this for free, but if you're staying privately, you'll need to go to the OVIR office in person. Unregistered stays can lead to fines at departure.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to evisa.tj, fill in your personal and passport details, upload a passport-style photo, and pay the fee (around $30–$50 depending on processing speed). Processing usually takes 3–5 business days. You'll receive the approved visa by email as a PDF.
2
Print or save your eVisa
Print at least one copy of the eVisa approval email. Also save a PDF on your phone — immigration at Dushanbe International Airport will ask to see it before they stamp you in.
3
Prepare your documents for arrival
Have your passport, printed eVisa, return ticket, and first-night hotel confirmation ready. Keep them together in a folder or a clear plastic sleeve so you can hand them over quickly at the immigration counter.
4
Arrive at Dushanbe International Airport
After landing, follow signs to 'Passport Control'. Join the queue for foreign passports. Hand over your passport, eVisa, and any requested documents. The officer will check your details, take a photo, and stamp your passport. The whole process usually takes 5–10 minutes.
5
Collect your luggage and exit
After passport control, head to baggage claim. Once you have your bags, walk through the green 'Nothing to Declare' channel if you have no goods to declare. If you're carrying more than $5,000 in cash or restricted items, use the red channel.

Frequently asked questions

Standard processing takes 3–5 business days. There's no official expedited option, so apply at least a week before your trip to be safe. The fee is around $30–$50 depending on the processing time you choose.
No. Tajikistan does not offer visa on arrival for Rwandan passport holders. You must have an approved eVisa before you board your flight.
Rejections are rare but can happen if your passport has less than 6 months validity, you have a criminal record, or your application has errors. You can reapply after correcting the issue. The fee is non-refundable.
If you stay longer than 10 days, you must register with the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Dushanbe or at a local OVIR office. Your hotel can usually do this for you. If you're staying with friends, you'll need to go in person. The registration is free but takes about half a day.
No. The eVisa is single-entry and cannot be extended. If you need to stay longer, you must leave the country and apply for a new visa. Overstaying can result in a fine of about $10 per day and possible deportation.
Your passport (valid 6+ months), printed eVisa, return ticket, and first-night hotel booking. Immigration officers may also ask for proof of sufficient funds — a bank statement or credit card is usually enough.
No, it's not required by law for entry. But it's strongly recommended — medical evacuation from remote areas can cost thousands of dollars, and local hospitals often require upfront payment.
