Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to stay in the UAE. Airlines at check-in will verify this — if your passport expires before you leave, you'll be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from the UAE
Immigration officers at Dubai and Abu Dhabi airports routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight booking ready — they'll check it before stamping you in.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a hotel confirmation or a letter from your host with their Emirates ID number. Officers at the counter may ask where you're staying, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during your stay
Have access to at least 3,000 AED (around 800 USD) in cash or on a card. Immigration rarely asks for it, but if they do, you need to show you're not coming to work illegally.Recommended
Overstay fines are steep
Overstaying your 90-day visa-free period costs 100 AED per day. There's no grace period. If you think you'll stay longer, apply for a tourist visa before your 90 days expire.
Travel insurance strongly recommended
While not required for entry, medical costs in the UAE can be very high. A simple hospital visit can cost hundreds of dollars. Travel insurance covering medical evacuation is a smart investment.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at UAE airport
You'll land at Dubai (DXB), Abu Dhabi (AUH), or Sharjah (SHJ). Follow signs to 'Arrivals' and then 'Immigration' or 'Passport Control'.
2
Queue at immigration counter
Join the line for foreign passports. Have your passport, return ticket, and accommodation details ready. The officer will scan your passport and may ask a few questions.
3
Receive entry stamp
If everything is in order, the officer will stamp your passport with a 90-day visa-free entry. You'll then proceed to baggage claim and customs.
4
Exit customs
After collecting your luggage, walk through the green channel if you have nothing to declare. You're now free to enter the UAE.
