Swedish passport holders can visit Brazil for tourism or business stays up to 90 days without a visa. From 2026, entry requires only a valid passport and a few supporting documents. This guide explains what you need for a smooth entry.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your departure date from Brazil
Your passport needs at least 6 months of validity left from the day you leave Brazil. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding. Brazil does not officially require 6 months for visa-free entries, but every airline enforces it anyway.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Brazil
Immigration officers at Brazilian airports routinely ask for a return or onward ticket before they stamp you in. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight out of Brazil ready. If you're overlanding to a neighboring country, a bus ticket or ferry booking works too.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation letter
Brazilian immigration rarely asks for this at the counter, but airline ground staff sometimes do at check-in. Have a hotel confirmation or a letter from your host with their address and phone number. A simple Booking.com printout is fine.Recommended
Proof of funds
Bank statement or credit card showing sufficient balance
Brazil does not have a fixed minimum amount, but officers may ask how you'll support yourself. A recent bank statement or a credit card with a visible limit works. I've never been asked, but a friend was once questioned at GRU and showed his Revolut app — they waved him through.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Airlines check your passport validity at check-in. If it's less than 6 months from your entry date, you may be denied boarding. Double-check before you leave.
No visa, but have proof ready
Even though you don't need a visa, immigration officers may ask for your return ticket and accommodation. Keep digital copies on your phone.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents
Before leaving Sweden, check your passport validity (6+ months from entry date). Book your return or onward ticket and first night accommodation. Save screenshots of everything on your phone.
2
Arrive at a Brazilian airport
You'll land at one of Brazil's international airports, such as Guarulhos (GRU) in São Paulo, Galeão (GIG) in Rio, or Brasília (BSB). Follow signs to 'Passport Control' or 'Immigration'.
3
Queue at immigration
Join the line for 'Foreign Passports' or 'All Passports'. Have your passport and return ticket ready. The officer may ask your purpose of visit and where you're staying.
4
Get your entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with the entry date and the number of days allowed, usually 90. Check the stamp before leaving the counter.
5
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, head to baggage claim, then customs. If you have nothing to declare, use the 'Nothing to Declare' green channel.
