Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
You need an eVisa to enter Myanmar. Apply at the official Myanmar eVisa Portal (Ministry of Immigration) at least 3 business days before your flight. The eVisa is valid for 90 days from issue and allows a single entry for up to 28 days.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must have 6 months validity
Your Swedish passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure date from Myanmar. Immigration at Yangon and Mandalay airports strictly enforce this — I've seen people turned away for less.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for entry
You must show a return or onward flight ticket when you arrive. Immigration officers at Yangon International Airport check this consistently — have a printed copy or a clear digital version ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Recommended to carry
Immigration may ask for your hotel booking or a letter of invitation from your host. Have a printed confirmation or a digital copy on your phone — it's not always checked, but saves hassle if they do.Recommended
Proof of funds
Recommended to carry
Carry proof of sufficient funds, such as a bank statement or credit card showing at least $300 USD equivalent. Immigration rarely asks, but budget airlines sometimes check before boarding.Recommended
eVisa only valid at airports
The Myanmar eVisa is only accepted at Yangon, Mandalay, and Naypyidaw international airports. If you plan to enter by land from Thailand, China, or India, you need a different visa — apply at a Myanmar embassy before you go.
Keep a printed eVisa backup
Phone screens can die or break. Print a copy of your eVisa approval and keep it with your passport. Some airlines also ask to see it at check-in.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for eVisa online
Go to the official Myanmar eVisa website (evisa.moip.gov.mm). Fill in your personal details, upload a passport photo, and pay the fee (around $50 USD). Processing takes up to 3 business days. You'll receive the approval by email.
2
Print or save your eVisa
Once approved, download the PDF. Print a copy and also save it on your phone. You'll need to show it at check-in and on arrival.
3
Arrive at Yangon, Mandalay, or Naypyidaw airport
Most international flights land at Yangon International Airport (RGN). Follow signs to 'Visa on Arrival' or 'eVisa' counters. Present your passport, eVisa, and boarding pass. The officer will stamp you in — no further forms needed.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, collect your bags from the carousel. There's a customs declaration if you're carrying large amounts of cash or restricted items. Otherwise, walk straight out.
