Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid only for the period you plan to stay in Paraguay. Airlines sometimes enforce a 6-month validity rule — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Paraguay
Immigration officers at Silvio Pettirossi International Airport regularly ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy ready.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a hotel confirmation or a letter of invitation from your host. Officers rarely ask for it, but having it avoids delays.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during your stay
Have access to at least $500 USD or equivalent in cash, cards, or bank statements. Immigration may ask for proof if you look underfunded.Recommended
Overstaying is costly
Paraguay strictly enforces the 90-day limit. Overstaying can result in a fine of about 100,000 PYG per day (roughly $15 USD) and possible deportation. Set a reminder to leave before your stamp expires.
Keep your entry stamp safe
Your entry stamp shows the date you arrived and the allowed stay. If it gets damaged or lost, visit the immigration office in Asunción (Dirección Nacional de Migraciones) to get a replacement before you leave.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Silvio Pettirossi International Airport (ASU) or land border
Most Swedish travellers fly into Asunción. At immigration, join the 'All Passports' queue. Have your passport, return ticket, and accommodation confirmation ready. The officer will stamp your passport for up to 90 days.
2
Present documents and receive entry stamp
Hand over your passport and any requested documents. The officer may ask about your travel plans. Answer clearly. They'll stamp your passport with the entry date and allowed stay. Keep the stamp visible — you'll need it when leaving.
3
Collect luggage and proceed to customs
After immigration, collect your bags from the carousel. Customs is usually a green/red channel system. If you have nothing to declare, go through the green channel. Random checks happen.
