Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure date from Myanmar. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Myanmar
Immigration officers at Yangon and Mandalay airports routinely ask for a confirmed onward or return ticket. If you don't have one, they may refuse entry or put you on the next flight out.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Have a printed or digital hotel confirmation ready. Immigration sometimes asks where you're staying, especially if you arrive without a pre-booked itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient cash or bank statement
Carry at least $300 USD in cash or have a bank statement showing available funds. Immigration rarely checks, but if asked, you need to show you can cover your stay.Recommended
Overstay penalties are strict
Myanmar fines overstays at $3–5 per day. If you overstay by more than 90 days, you risk detention, a blacklist, and deportation at your own expense. Set a reminder to leave before day 30.
No arrival card needed
Unlike many countries, Myanmar does not require an arrival card or customs declaration. Just your passport and boarding pass — that's it.

What happens at the border

1
Arrival at the airport
At Yangon, Mandalay, or Naypyidaw airports, follow signs to 'Immigration' or 'Foreign Passports'. Join the queue for visa-free arrivals.
2
Present your documents
Hand over your passport (valid 6+ months) and your boarding pass. The officer may ask for your return ticket and hotel booking — have them ready on your phone.
3
Get your entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with a 30-day visa-free entry. Check the stamp says '30 days' before leaving the counter. Keep the stamp visible — you'll need it when you leave.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, collect your bags from the carousel and proceed through customs. There's no arrival card to fill out.
