Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must cover your stay in Mozambique
Your passport needs at least one blank page for the entry stamp. Mozambique does not require 6 months of validity beyond your departure date — just enough to cover your stay.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Mozambique
Immigration officers at Maputo Airport routinely ask for a confirmed onward or return ticket. Airlines boarding flights to Mozambique also check this before issuing your boarding pass.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Have a printed or digital hotel reservation ready. If staying with friends or family, a letter of invitation with their contact details works too.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Carry a bank statement or credit card showing access to around 500 USD for your stay. Immigration rarely asks, but it helps if questioned.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Mozambique requires your passport to be valid for at least 6 months from your arrival date. Airlines check this before boarding. If your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding — no exceptions.
No visa needed, but be prepared
While there's no visa fee or application, immigration officers may ask for proof of onward travel and accommodation. Have digital copies on your phone or printed backups.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at immigration counter
At Maputo International Airport (MPM) or any land border, head to the 'Foreign Passports' queue. Have your passport, boarding pass, and return ticket ready.
2
Present documents and get stamped
Hand over your passport. The officer will check your passport validity, blank page, and may ask for your return ticket. They'll stamp you in for up to 30 days. No fee, no forms.
3
Collect luggage and exit
After the stamp, proceed to baggage claim (if arriving by air), then customs. The whole process usually takes 10–15 minutes if you have everything ready.

You will be denied entry. Mozambique strictly enforces the 6-month passport validity rule. Renew your passport before traveling.
If you are arriving from a country with yellow fever risk (including transit), you need a yellow fever vaccination certificate. Singapore is not a risk country, so if you fly directly from Singapore, no certificate is needed. But if you've been in Africa or South America recently, bring your yellow card.
Yes. The same visa-free policy applies at all land border crossings. Just have your passport, return ticket, and accommodation details ready. Popular entry points include the Lebombo/Ressano Garcia border post from South Africa.
No. There is no arrival declaration requirement for Singapore passport holders. Just show up at immigration with your documents.
The local currency is the Mozambican metical (MZN). US dollars are widely accepted in hotels, larger restaurants, and for tours, but you'll get better rates using meticals. ATMs are available in cities. Avoid carrying large amounts of cash.
Overstaying can result in a fine (around 500–1,000 MZN per day) and possible detention or deportation. Always leave before your stamp expires. If you need more time, apply for a visa before travel.
