Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Georgia does not require 6 months of passport validity beyond your stay — your passport just needs to be valid for the entire time you're in the country. Airlines may still ask for 6 months, so check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Georgia
Immigration officers at Tbilisi and Kutaisi airports regularly ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy ready — a flight reservation or bus ticket out of Georgia works.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Officers may ask where you're staying, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary. A hotel confirmation or a letter from a host with their address is enough.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during your stay
Georgia does not enforce a fixed minimum amount, but carrying at least $500 USD or having a credit card with available credit covers most situations. ATMs are widely available in Tbilisi and Batumi.Recommended
360 days is generous — but don't overstay
Overstaying even one day can result in a fine (about 180 GEL) and a ban from re-entering for a period. Set a reminder to leave before day 360.
Land borders with Russia and Abkhazia
Entering Georgia from Russia via the Upper Lars checkpoint is possible, but expect long queues (sometimes 6+ hours). The border with Abkhazia is de facto closed for foreign nationals — do not attempt to cross there.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at any Georgian port of entry
Fly into Tbilisi International Airport (TBS), Kutaisi (KUT), or Batumi (BUS). You can also enter by land from Turkey, Armenia, Azerbaijan, or Russia. At the airport, follow signs to 'Passport Control' — there are separate queues for Georgian citizens and foreigners.
2
Present your passport
Hand over your Slovenian passport. The officer will check your validity, scan it, and stamp you in. No forms to fill, no fee to pay. The whole process takes 1–3 minutes.
3
Collect your luggage and exit
After passport control, proceed to baggage claim, then customs. There's usually nothing to declare unless you're carrying large sums of cash or restricted goods.
