Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to stay in Macau. No minimum validity beyond your departure date is required by Macau immigration, but some airlines may enforce a 6-month rule — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Macau
Immigration officers routinely ask for a confirmed onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or a ticket to your next destination ready at the border.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Carry a printed hotel confirmation or a letter from your host in Macau. Officers rarely ask for it, but having it avoids delays if they do.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient money for your stay
Have access to enough cash or credit to cover your expenses. Macau does not publish a fixed minimum, but showing a bank statement or credit card is a safe bet if questioned.Recommended
Overstaying is expensive
If you stay past 90 days, you'll be fined MOP 500 per day (about €55). Overstay more than 30 days and you risk a ban from re-entering Macau for up to 1 year.
No visa on arrival — it's already visa-free
You don't need to apply for anything before you go. Just show up with your passport and a return ticket. No forms, no fees, no queues at the embassy.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Macau International Airport or ferry terminal
You'll land at Macau International Airport (MFM) or arrive by ferry from Hong Kong or mainland China. Follow signs to 'Immigration' or 'Arrivals'.
2
Join the 'Visitors' queue
At immigration counters, look for the 'Visitors' or 'Foreign Passports' lane. Slovak passports go through the standard queue — no special lane.
3
Present your passport and boarding pass
Hand over your passport (open to the photo page) and your boarding pass or ferry ticket. The officer may ask your purpose of visit and how long you're staying.
4
Get your entry stamp
The officer stamps your passport with the date of entry and the allowed stay (up to 90 days). Check the stamp before walking away — make sure the dates are correct.
5
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, head to baggage claim (if you checked bags), then walk through customs. There's usually nothing to declare for personal items.
