Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport must be valid for at least the length of your stay in Tajikistan. Airlines at check-in may ask for 6 months validity beyond your departure date — carry a printout of the official rule to show them if needed.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Tajikistan
Immigration officers at Dushanbe International Airport routinely ask for a confirmed onward or return ticket. Have a printed copy or a screenshot ready on your phone.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Border officers may ask where you are staying. A printed hotel confirmation or an invitation letter from your host with their address and phone number works.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during your stay
Officers occasionally ask for proof of sufficient funds. Carry a bank statement or a credit card showing at least $50 USD per day of your stay.Recommended
Visa-free entry is for 30 days only
You cannot extend this period. If you need more time, apply for a visa at a Tajik embassy before you travel. Overstaying can lead to fines and entry bans.
No registration needed for short stays
Unlike some other Central Asian countries, Tajikistan does not require you to register with the police if you're staying less than 30 days. Just enjoy your trip.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Dushanbe International Airport
Most flights land at Dushanbe International Airport (DYU). After deplaning, follow signs to 'Passport Control' or 'Immigration'. There are usually two queues: one for Tajik citizens, one for foreigners. Join the foreigner queue.
2
Present your passport and boarding pass
Hand over your passport and boarding pass to the immigration officer. They'll check your passport validity and may ask for your return ticket. Have your phone or printed copy ready.
3
Receive your entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with a 30-day visa-free entry. Check the stamp before walking away — make sure the date is correct. If there's an issue, politely ask the officer to correct it.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After passport control, head to baggage claim. Then proceed through customs (green channel if nothing to declare, red channel if you have goods over the duty-free limit). You're free to enter Tajikistan.
