Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for at least 3 months beyond your departure date from Uzbekistan. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Uzbekistan
Immigration officers at Tashkent International Airport routinely ask for a confirmed onward or return ticket. Have a printed or digital copy ready — they will check the date matches your visa-free stay limit.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Border officers may ask where you are staying. Have a hotel confirmation or a letter from a host with their address and contact number. This is not always checked, but saves time if asked.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during the stay
Uzbekistan does not publish a fixed minimum amount, but carrying around $50–$100 per day in cash or having a bank statement showing available funds covers you. ATMs are widely available in Tashkent but less so in rural areas.Recommended
Overstaying is expensive
If you stay beyond 30 days without a visa, you'll be fined around 500,000 UZS (about €40) and may be banned from re-entering for up to 5 years. Set a reminder to leave on time.
Keep your migration card
The small paper card you get on arrival is your exit ticket. Lose it and you'll face delays and a fine at departure. Keep it in your passport.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Tashkent International Airport (or land border)
You'll join the 'Foreign Passports' queue. Have your passport, return ticket (printed or on phone), and accommodation confirmation ready. The officer will check your passport validity, stamp you in, and you're done. Expect 5-15 minutes.
2
Complete a migration card (if asked)
Some border points still issue paper migration cards. Fill in your name, passport number, and address in Uzbekistan. Keep the exit portion — you'll hand it back when leaving.
3
Register with local authorities (hotel does it)
Your hotel or hostel will register you with the Uzbek migration police within 3 days of arrival. If you're staying with friends or in an apartment, you must register yourself at the local OVIR office. Keep the registration slip — you may need it when leaving.

Frequently asked questions

No. The visa-free stay is strictly 30 days. It cannot be extended. If you want to stay longer, you must apply for a visa in advance at an Uzbek embassy (e.g., in Vienna or Bratislava). Overstaying can result in fines and a ban.
Your hotel will do this for you automatically within 3 days. If you're staying in a private apartment or with friends, you must register yourself at the local OVIR office (Migration Department). Keep the registration slip — you'll need it when leaving.
You may be denied boarding by the airline or refused entry at the border. Immigration officers routinely ask for proof of onward travel. A refundable ticket booked and then cancelled after entry is a common workaround.
Yes. The same visa-free rules apply at land borders. Common crossings include from Tashkent to Shymkent (Kazakhstan) and from Osh to Andijan (Kyrgyzstan). Expect longer queues and more thorough checks at land borders.
No, it's not mandatory for entry. But it's strongly recommended. A basic policy covering medical evacuation and hospital stays costs around €20-30 for a week. Without it, a single hospital visit can cost hundreds of euros.
You will be denied entry. The 6-month rule is strictly enforced. Renew your passport before travelling. If you're in a hurry, check if you can get an emergency passport from the Slovak embassy in Vienna or Budapest.
No mandatory vaccinations for entry. Routine vaccines (hepatitis A, typhoid, tetanus) are recommended. Check with your doctor 4-6 weeks before travel.
