Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply online before travel
Apply for a Vietnam eVisa at evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn. The fee is $25 USD for single entry or $50 USD for multiple entry, valid for up to 90 days. Processing takes 3 working days — apply at least a week before your flight.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for 6 months beyond your stay
Your Slovak passport needs at least 6 months of validity beyond your intended departure date from Vietnam. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Vietnam
Immigration officers routinely ask for a flight out of Vietnam within your eVisa validity period. Have a printed or digital copy of your onward ticket ready — they will check the date matches your visa.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Have a confirmed hotel booking or a letter of invitation from your host in Vietnam. Immigration may ask for your first night's address on arrival — a printed booking confirmation covers this.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support your stay
Carry at least $500 USD in cash or have a bank statement showing available funds. Officers rarely ask, but if you cannot prove you can cover your expenses, they can deny entry.Recommended
Visa-free entry is for tourism only
If you're visiting for business, study, or work, you need a different visa type. The 45-day visa-free entry is strictly for tourism.
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Make sure your passport is valid for at least 6 months from the day you land. If it's less, you'll be denied boarding or entry. No exceptions.
eSIMs save time at the airport
Skip the SIM card queue at the airport. Install an Airalo eSIM before you fly — it activates the moment you land. You'll have data for Grab, Maps, and translation immediately.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at the airport in Vietnam
You'll land at one of Vietnam's international airports: Noi Bai (Hanoi), Tan Son Nhat (Ho Chi Minh City), Da Nang, Cam Ranh (Nha Trang), or Phu Quoc. Follow signs to 'Immigration' or 'Arrivals'.
2
Queue at immigration
Join the line for 'Foreign Passports'. Have your passport, boarding pass, and return ticket screenshot ready. The officer will check your passport, take a photo, and stamp you in. For visa-free entry, you get up to 45 days. For eVisa holders, the officer will verify your eVisa approval letter (printed or digital).
3
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, head to baggage claim, then customs (usually nothing to declare). Exit into the arrivals hall.
