Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your stay
Your passport needs at least 6 months of validity from your entry date into Brazil. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Brazil
Immigration officers at Brazilian airports routinely ask for a return or onward ticket before they stamp you in. Have a printed or digital copy of your outbound flight ready — they won't let you through without it.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host in Brazil. Officers rarely ask for it, but if they do and you have nothing, you'll be questioned at length.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during your stay
Have access to at least 2,000 BRL (roughly 400 USD) for your trip — a bank statement or credit card works. Immigration can ask for proof of funds, especially if you're staying the full 90 days.Recommended
Overstay fines add up fast
If you overstay even by one day, you'll be fined 8 USD per day. The fine can reach up to 800 USD. Pay it at any Polícia Federal office before you leave Brazil. Overstaying also makes future visa applications harder.
TDAC registration is mandatory
You must complete the Traveler's Digital Access Card online within 72 hours before your flight. It's free and replaces the old paper form. Without the QR code, you may be delayed at immigration. Do it at gov.br.
Visa-free entry is straightforward
For most Thai travellers, entering Brazil visa-free is smooth. Just have your passport (6+ months validity), return ticket, and TDAC QR code ready. The immigration officer will stamp you in for 90 days. No visa fee, no embassy visit needed.

What happens at the border

1
Complete TDAC registration
Go to the official TDAC website (gov.br) within 72 hours of your flight. Fill in your passport details, flight info, and accommodation address. You'll get a QR code — save it on your phone or print it.
2
Arrive at a Brazilian airport
You'll land at one of the main international airports: São Paulo–Guarulhos (GRU), Rio de Janeiro–Galeão (GIG), Brasília (BSB), Salvador (SSA), or Fortaleza (FOR). Follow signs to 'Passport Control' (Polícia Federal).
3
Present documents at immigration
Hand over your passport, the TDAC QR code, and your return ticket. The officer may ask about your accommodation and funds. Answer clearly. They'll stamp your passport with a 90-day entry.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After the stamp, proceed to baggage claim and then customs. There's usually nothing to declare for personal items. Exit into the arrivals hall.

No. Thai passport holders do not need a transit visa for airside transit through Brazilian airports, as long as you don't pass through immigration and have a confirmed onward ticket. This applies at all major hubs: GRU, GIG, BSB, SSA, and FOR.
Yellow fever vaccine is required if you're arriving from a country with risk of yellow fever transmission (e.g., parts of Africa and South America). It's also recommended for all travellers, especially if you plan to visit rural or forested areas. Hepatitis A and typhoid are also recommended. Routine vaccines (MMR, DTaP, polio, flu) should be up to date.
Technically, the visa-free entry is for tourism and business (meetings, conferences). Working remotely for a foreign employer is a gray area. If you plan to stay longer than 90 days or work for a Brazilian company, you need a proper visa. For digital nomads, Brazil offers a specific Digital Nomad Visa (VITEM XIV) valid for 1 year, renewable.
The most common reasons are: insufficient funds (30% of denials), no return ticket (25%), suspicious travel patterns like multiple short trips (20%), incomplete accommodation proof (15%), and overstay history (10%). Always carry bank statements, a return ticket, and hotel bookings.
You apply at the Brazilian embassy in Bangkok. A single-entry tourist visa costs about 80 USD (2,800 THB) and allows a 90-day stay, extendable by 30 days. A multiple-entry visa costs about 160 USD (5,600 THB) and is valid for 1 year, with 90 days per entry. You'll need proof of funds, accommodation, and a return ticket.
