Tunisian passport holders need an eVisa to travel to Malawi. The eVisa covers tourism and business visits, and you must apply online before departure. As of 2025, the process is straightforward and typically takes a few business days.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
Apply for a Malawi eVisa at the official immigration portal. Processing takes 3–5 business days. Print the approval letter and carry it with your passport to present on arrival.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must cover entire stay
Your Tunisian passport needs at least one blank page for the entry stamp. Malawi does not enforce a 6-month validity rule — your passport just needs to be valid for the duration of your stay.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure
Immigration officers at Kamuzu International Airport routinely ask for a confirmed onward or return ticket. Have a printed or digital copy ready — airlines may also check this before boarding.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Carry a printed hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host in Malawi. Officers occasionally ask for this, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can cover your stay
Have bank statements or a credit card ready to show you have enough money for your trip. There is no fixed minimum amount, but around $300–$500 for a short visit is a safe benchmark.Recommended
No visa on arrival for Tunisians
You cannot get a visa on arrival in Malawi. You must have an approved eVisa before you board your flight. Airlines will check this before allowing you to check in.
eVisa is valid for tourism and business
The eVisa covers short visits for tourism, business meetings, or family visits. If you plan to work or study, you need a different visa type.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for eVisa online
Go to the Malawi eVisa portal (evisa.immigration.gov.mw). Fill in your personal and travel details, upload a passport photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the fee (around $75 USD for a single-entry tourist visa) with a credit card. Processing takes 2–5 business days. You'll receive the approved eVisa by email.
2
Prepare your documents
Print the eVisa approval email or save it on your phone. Also print or screenshot your return ticket and first night's hotel booking. Keep your passport accessible.
3
Arrive at Kamuzu International Airport (LLW) or Chileka International Airport (BLZ)
After landing, follow signs to 'Immigration' or 'Visa on Arrival' (even if you have an eVisa, you'll go through the same queue). Present your passport, eVisa (printed or digital), and return ticket. The officer will stamp your passport. The whole process usually takes 10–20 minutes.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After clearing immigration, proceed to baggage claim, then customs. There's usually a quick baggage scan. You're free to exit after that.
