Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of stay
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure date from Vietnam. Airlines check this at check-in.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Vietnam
Immigration officers routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy ready showing your departure within the eVisa validity period.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Keep a copy of your hotel reservation or host's invitation letter. Officers rarely ask, but having it avoids delays.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show sufficient cash or card
Carry at least $500 USD or equivalent in cash, or have a credit card with available limit. Immigration may ask for proof of financial means.Recommended
Print your eVisa — digital won't work
Vietnam immigration requires a printed copy of your eVisa approval letter. A screenshot on your phone is not accepted. Print it in color on A4 paper before you leave.
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you land in Vietnam, not from your departure date. If it expires sooner, renew it first.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to the official Vietnam eVisa website (evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn). Fill in your personal details, upload a passport photo and a scanned copy of your passport data page, and pay the fee (typically $25 USD). Processing takes 3-5 working days.
2
Receive and print your eVisa
Once approved, you'll get an eVisa approval letter by email. Print it in color on A4 paper. You'll need the printed copy to show at immigration in Vietnam.
3
Prepare your documents for arrival
Before you fly, gather: your printed eVisa, passport (valid 6+ months), return/onward ticket, and first night hotel booking. Keep them in your hand luggage.
4
Arrive at a Vietnamese airport
You can enter Vietnam through any international airport (Hanoi Noi Bai, Ho Chi Minh City Tan Son Nhat, Da Nang, etc.). Go to the 'eVisa' or 'Immigration' counter. Hand over your passport and printed eVisa. The officer will stamp you in.
