Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you're in Croatia. Croatia is part of the Schengen zone, so the 90-day limit applies across all 27 Schengen countries — not just Croatia.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Schengen area
Immigration at Zagreb or Split will ask for a return or onward ticket showing you leave the Schengen zone within 90 days. Budget airlines check this before boarding too.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Have a hotel confirmation or a letter from your host ready. Border officers rarely ask, but if they do, you need a printed or digital copy.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient money for your stay
Carry at least €100 per day of your stay or a credit card with a decent limit. Croatia doesn't enforce a fixed amount, but showing you can cover expenses smooths things out.Recommended
90-day limit applies to entire Schengen area
Your 90-day visa-free stay counts across all 27 Schengen countries, not just Croatia. If you've already spent 30 days in France, you only have 60 days left for Croatia and the rest of Schengen combined.
Entry requirements may change
This information is based on current rules as of 2026. Always check with the Croatian Ministry of Foreign Affairs or your nearest Croatian embassy before traveling, as policies can change.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare documents before departure
Check your passport validity (6+ months from entry date). Book your return/onward ticket and first night accommodation. Get travel insurance and a local eSIM if desired. Save all confirmations as screenshots or PDFs on your phone.
2
Arrive at Croatian border
At the airport (Zagreb, Split, Dubrovnik, etc.) or land border, join the 'All Passports' queue. Have your passport ready. The officer will check your passport, may ask about your stay duration and purpose, and may request to see your return ticket or accommodation.
3
Receive entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with the entry date. This stamp records your 90-day allowance. Keep it safe — you'll need it for exit or if asked later.
4
Exit Croatia
Before your 90 days expire, leave Croatia or the Schengen area. Overstaying can result in fines or a ban. At exit, your passport will be stamped again.
