Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for entire stay in Schengen area
Your passport needs to be valid for the full duration of your stay in Hungary. The 90-day limit applies across all 26 Schengen countries combined — not just Hungary. Airlines at Taipei check-in will verify your passport validity before letting you board.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Schengen area
Immigration at Budapest Airport will ask for a return or onward ticket showing you leave the Schengen zone within 90 days. Budget airlines flying into Hungary check this strictly at check-in — have a printed or digital copy ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Have your hotel confirmation or host's address ready — border officers at Budapest may ask where you're staying. A simple booking.com confirmation or a letter from a friend works fine.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Carry a bank statement or credit card showing you have enough funds for your stay. Hungarian immigration rarely checks this for Taiwanese passport holders, but having a recent statement in your bag avoids any hassle.Recommended
90-day limit applies to entire Schengen Area
Your 90-day visa-free stay is for the whole Schengen Area, not just Hungary. Days spent in other Schengen countries count toward the same 90-day limit. Use the Schengen calculator to track your days.
Keep a copy of your passport
Carry a photocopy or digital scan of your passport's photo page and entry stamp. If your passport is lost or stolen, this makes replacement much faster.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare documents before travel
Check your passport validity (6+ months beyond entry), print or save your return ticket, accommodation booking, and travel insurance. Have them accessible on your phone or in a folder.
2
Arrive at Budapest Airport or land border
At Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport, follow signs to 'Non-EU Passports' queue. Present your passport and any requested documents. The officer will stamp your passport with entry date and allowed stay.
3
Receive entry stamp
The border officer will stamp your passport with the date of entry and the maximum stay (90 days). Check the stamp before leaving the counter.
4
Keep documents during your stay
Carry a copy of your passport and entry stamp. If asked by police or immigration, you must show your passport and proof of legal stay.
