Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire period you plan to stay in Poland. Since Poland is in the Schengen zone, the 90-day limit applies across all Schengen countries combined — not just Poland.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Schengen area
Immigration officers at Polish border checkpoints routinely ask for a return or onward ticket showing you leave the Schengen zone within 90 days. Have a printed or digital copy ready — airlines also check this before boarding.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a hotel confirmation, hostel booking, or an invitation letter from a host. Border officers occasionally ask for this, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Have bank statements or cash showing you have enough money for your stay. Polish immigration may ask for roughly 300 PLN (~$75 USD) per day of your visit.Recommended
90-day rule applies to entire Schengen area
Your 90 visa-free days count across all 27 Schengen countries, not just Poland. If you've already spent 30 days in France, you only have 60 days left for Poland and the rest of Schengen. Track your days carefully.
Travel insurance is strongly recommended
While not mandatory for entry, medical costs in Poland can be high. A simple hospital visit can cost hundreds of euros. Travel insurance covers that, plus trip cancellation and lost luggage.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Polish border control
At Warsaw Chopin, Kraków, or any land border, join the 'All Passports' queue. Have your passport, return ticket, and accommodation proof ready. The officer will check your passport validity, stamp you in, and note the allowed stay (usually 90 days).
2
Present documents if asked
You may be asked to show your return ticket and hotel booking. Answer honestly about your plans. If you're staying with friends, say so and provide their address. No need to volunteer extra info.
3
Receive entry stamp
The officer stamps your passport with the date of entry and the date by which you must leave. Check the stamp before walking away. If it's wrong, ask for correction immediately.
4
Exit Schengen area
When leaving Poland (or any Schengen country), go through exit control. Your passport will be stamped out. Keep your boarding pass or ticket as proof of departure.
