Active conflict — commercial flights suspended
Iran is currently in an active military conflict with the US (escalated July 2026, strikes near Tehran and Semnan province). Tehran's Imam Khomeini International Airport has suspended all scheduled commercial flights, and aviation authorities (EASA) advise against operating in Iranian airspace at all. Do not plan travel to Iran right now — check your government's official travel advisory and live flight status before making any arrangements. The visa information on this page describes the standard peacetime policy and may not be practically usable at the moment.
Apply early — don't risk it
eVisa processing can take up to 2 weeks, and there's no visa-on-arrival option for Taiwanese citizens. Apply at least 3 weeks before your trip to avoid last-minute stress.
Credit cards won't work in Iran
Due to international sanctions, most foreign credit and debit cards don't work in Iran. Bring enough cash (US dollars, euros, or pounds) to exchange for Iranian rials at the airport or local exchange offices.

What happens at the border

1
Choose your visa method
Decide whether to apply for an e-visa online before you fly, or get a visa on arrival at the airport. The e-visa is processed in about 7-10 days and lets you skip the airport visa office queue.
2
Prepare your documents
Gather your passport (6 months validity), a passport-sized photo, return flight itinerary, and accommodation address. If applying for an e-visa, you'll upload these online.
3
Arrive at the airport
At Tehran Imam Khomeini (IKA) or other major airports, follow signs to the 'Visa on Arrival' office before passport control. Fill out the visa application form, pay the fee in USD or Euros, and wait for processing (usually 30-60 minutes).
4
Pass through immigration
Once your visa is issued, proceed to passport control. Have your passport, visa (if e-visa), and return ticket ready. You'll get a stamp allowing a 30-day stay.

Frequently asked questions

No, visa on arrival is only available at certain international airports, including Tehran Imam Khomeini (IKA), Shiraz (SYZ), Isfahan (IFN), Mashhad (MHD), and Tabriz (TBZ). If you fly into a smaller airport, you'll need an e-visa beforehand.
The fee varies by nationality, but for Taiwan passport holders it's typically around 50-75 USD. You must pay in cash (USD or Euros). The exact amount is set by Iranian authorities and can change, so bring a bit extra.
The e-visa application is usually processed within 7-10 working days. It's best to apply at least 2 weeks before your trip to be safe. You'll receive an approval code that you can use at the airport or print out.
No, the 30-day visa for Taiwan passport holders is not extendable. You must leave Iran before the 30 days are up. Overstaying can result in fines and problems with future travel.
It's not officially required for the visa, but it's highly recommended. Iran has limited international health facilities, and medical evacuation can be very expensive. Make sure your policy covers Iran.
You can still use the tourist visa on arrival or e-visa. Just provide the address of where you're staying (your friend's home) on the form. No special invitation letter is needed for Taiwan passport holders.
Women must observe the Islamic dress code (headscarf and modest clothing) in public. This applies to all visitors, regardless of nationality. It's not a visa requirement, but it's strictly enforced.
