Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Visa on arrival
Visa on arrival
Get your visa at Maputo International Airport or other land borders. Pay $50 USD in cash (exact change) — they don't accept cards. Have a printed copy of your hotel booking and return ticket ready at the visa counter.Apply onlineRequired
Valid passport
Original passport with at least 6 months validity
Your passport must have at least 6 months remaining from your entry date. Mozambique immigration checks this strictly — if you're under 6 months, they'll deny boarding at the airline counter.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of onward travel
Immigration at Maputo airport asks to see your onward ticket before stamping you in. Airlines also check this at check-in — have a printed or digital copy of your return or onward flight.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Have a printed hotel reservation or a letter from your host in Mozambique. Immigration may ask for it at the visa counter — a booking confirmation with your name and dates works fine.Recommended
Proof of funds
Bank statement or cash
Carry at least $500 USD in cash or a recent bank statement showing sufficient funds. Immigration rarely asks, but if they do, you'll need to show you can support yourself during your stay.Recommended
Cash only at visa counter
The visa on arrival fee must be paid in cash — US dollars or Mozambican meticais. There are no ATMs before immigration at Maputo airport, so bring the exact amount with you.
Visa on arrival is straightforward
The process usually takes 10–15 minutes. Have your documents ready in a folder to speed things up. The immigration officers are used to processing Taiwanese passports.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at immigration counter
At Maputo International Airport (MPM) or any other entry point, head to the 'Visa on Arrival' counter before the main immigration queue. Look for the sign — it's usually separate.
2
Submit documents and pay fee
Hand over your passport, completed arrival card (you'll get it on the plane or at the counter), return ticket, and accommodation proof. Pay the visa fee in cash. The officer will process and issue the visa sticker.
3
Proceed to passport control
Once you have the visa sticker, join the main immigration queue. The officer will stamp you in. Keep the visa receipt with your passport — you may need it when leaving.
