Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
Apply for your Burkina Faso eVisa at the official portal visaburkina.bf. Processing takes 3–5 business days — do not wait until the last minute. Print the approval email and carry it with your passport.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for the entire stay
Your Tanzanian passport must be valid for the full duration of your stay in Burkina Faso. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires before you leave, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure
Immigration officers routinely ask for a return or onward ticket at Ouagadougou Airport. Have a printed copy or a digital version on your phone ready. A bus ticket to a neighboring country also works.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host. Officers rarely ask for it, but having it avoids delays at the counter.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Have a bank statement or cash equivalent to about 200,000 CFA (~$330) per week of stay. Officers almost never check this, but it is a formal requirement in the immigration code.Recommended
Yellow fever vaccine required
You must show proof of yellow fever vaccination (yellow card) upon arrival. Without it, you may be denied entry or forced to get vaccinated at the airport.
eVisa is the only option
There is no visa on arrival for Tanzanian passport holders. Apply online at visaburkina.bf before you travel.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to the official Burkina Faso eVisa website (visaburkina.bf). Fill in your personal details, passport info, and travel dates. Upload a passport-style photo. Pay the fee with a credit or debit card. You'll receive a confirmation email.
2
Wait for approval
Processing usually takes 2–5 business days. Check your email (including spam) for the approval. Print the eVisa approval letter or save it on your phone.
3
Arrive at Ouagadougou Airport (or land border)
At the airport, head to immigration. Present your passport, eVisa approval, and return ticket. The officer will stamp you in. Keep your boarding pass handy if asked. At land borders, the process is similar — show your eVisa and passport.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, collect your bags from baggage claim. Then proceed to customs. There's usually no duty for personal items. Exit into the arrivals hall.
