Tanzanian passport holders need a visa to enter Egypt in 2026. The easiest way is to apply for an e-visa online before you travel. Make sure your passport is valid for at least 6 months from your arrival date.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Visa application
Visa required
You need a visa before traveling to Egypt. Apply through the official eVisa portal at visa2egypt.gov.eg — the process takes about 10 minutes and approval usually comes within 3 business days. Print the approval letter and carry it with your passport to show at immigration.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your arrival date
Your Tanzanian passport must have at least 6 months of validity remaining from the day you enter Egypt. Immigration at Cairo Airport checks this strictly — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for entry
You must show a confirmed return or onward flight ticket when you arrive. Immigration officers at Cairo and Hurghada routinely ask for it — if you don't have one, they may refuse entry or put you on the next flight out.Required
Proof of accommodation
Recommended to have ready
Carry a printed hotel booking confirmation or an invitation letter from your host. Immigration may ask where you're staying — having the address and booking reference speeds things up.Recommended
Proof of funds
Recommended to have ready
Have bank statements or cash showing you can cover your stay. There's no fixed minimum, but around $50–$100 USD per day is a safe benchmark. Immigration rarely asks, but it's better to have it.Recommended
Apply early for your e-visa
Don't wait until the last minute. Processing can take up to 10 days during peak travel seasons. Apply at least two weeks before your flight to avoid stress.
No visa on arrival for Tanzanians
Unlike some other nationalities, Tanzanian passport holders cannot get a visa on arrival at Egyptian airports. You must have an approved e-visa before you board your flight. Airlines will check this.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for e-Visa Online
Go to visa2egypt.gov.eg, fill in your details, upload a passport photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the fee (around $25 USD for a single-entry tourist visa) with a credit card. Processing usually takes 3-7 business days. You'll receive the approved visa by email as a PDF.
2
Prepare Your Documents
Print or save to your phone: the e-visa PDF, your flight itinerary, hotel booking confirmation, and travel insurance policy. Keep them together in a folder or a clear plastic sleeve for quick access.
3
Arrival at Egyptian Airport
At Cairo International Airport (or any other Egyptian airport), head to the immigration hall. Join the queue for 'Foreign Passports' or 'All Passports'. Hand over your passport, printed e-visa, and boarding pass. The officer will check your documents, stamp your passport, and wave you through. Expect a short wait — 10-30 minutes depending on crowds.
4
Collect Your Luggage and Exit
After immigration, proceed to baggage claim, then customs. There's usually no customs declaration for personal items. Exit into the arrivals hall.

Yes, immigration officers may ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return or onward flight booking ready. It's a standard check.
The single-entry e-visa allows a stay of up to 30 days. Extensions are possible but not guaranteed — you'd need to visit the Passport and Immigration Office in Cairo or another major city. It's easier to apply for a multiple-entry visa upfront if you think you'll stay longer.
