Tanzanian passport holders need a visa to enter Myanmar. You must apply online before you travel — there are no visa-on-arrival options for Tanzanian citizens as of 2026. Plan ahead, as processing can take several business days.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply online before travel
Apply for a Myanmar eVisa at the official Ministry of Immigration portal. Processing takes 3–5 business days, and the eVisa is valid for 90 days from issue. Print the approval letter and carry it with your passport — immigration at Yangon, Mandalay, and Naypyidaw airports will stamp you in.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must have 6 months validity beyond your stay
Your Tanzanian passport needs at least 6 months of remaining validity from your date of entry into Myanmar. Airlines check this before boarding — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Myanmar
Immigration officers at Yangon International Airport routinely ask for a confirmed onward or return ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight booking ready — a bus or train ticket out of the country also works if you are overlanding.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Carry a printed hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host in Myanmar. Immigration may ask for your first night's address on arrival, and some airlines request it at check-in.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support your stay
Have at least $300 USD in cash or a credit card statement ready. Immigration rarely asks, but if they do, you need to show you can cover accommodation and expenses for the duration of your visit.Recommended
eVisa only at airports
The Myanmar eVisa is only valid for entry at Yangon, Mandalay, or Naypyidaw airports. You cannot use it at land borders. If you plan to enter overland, you'll need a different visa type.
Apply early
eVisa processing can take up to 5 business days, and sometimes longer during holidays. Apply at least 10 days before your flight to avoid last-minute stress.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to the official Myanmar eVisa website (evisa.moip.gov.mm). Fill in your details, upload a passport photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the fee (around $50 USD) with a credit or debit card. Processing takes 3–5 business days, sometimes longer.
2
Receive and print your eVisa approval
Once approved, you'll get an email with a PDF. Print two copies — one for immigration at the airport, one as a backup. Keep a digital copy on your phone too.
3
Arrive at Yangon or Mandalay International Airport
Most travellers fly into Yangon (RGN) or Mandalay (MDL). At immigration, present your passport, printed eVisa, and return ticket. They'll stamp you in. The whole process usually takes 10–15 minutes.
4
Show your accommodation and onward ticket if asked
Immigration officers may ask for proof of where you're staying and when you're leaving. Have your hotel booking and return ticket ready on your phone or printed.
