Active conflict — commercial flights suspended
Iran is currently in an active military conflict with the US (escalated July 2026, strikes near Tehran and Semnan province). Tehran's Imam Khomeini International Airport has suspended all scheduled commercial flights, and aviation authorities (EASA) advise against operating in Iranian airspace at all. Do not plan travel to Iran right now — check your government's official travel advisory and live flight status before making any arrangements. The visa information on this page describes the standard peacetime policy and may not be practically usable at the moment.
No visa on arrival — don't risk it
Ukrainians cannot get a visa on arrival in Iran. Arriving without an approved e-visa means being denied boarding or entry. Apply well in advance and carry your printed visa grant notice.
E-visa is linked to your passport
The e-visa is electronic — no sticker is placed in your passport. Immigration will see it in their system when they scan your passport, but you still need the printed notice to show at check-in and at the border.
Passport validity is strict
Iran requires 6 months of passport validity from your arrival date. If your passport expires sooner, you'll be refused entry — even if your e-visa is approved. Renew your passport before applying.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for an e-Visa online (recommended)
Go to the official Iranian e-Visa website and fill out the application form. You'll need to upload a digital photo and passport scan. Pay the fee online if the system allows it for your nationality. Processing usually takes a few days to a couple of weeks, so apply well in advance.
2
Get your visa approval code
Once your e-Visa is approved, you'll receive a visa approval code or a reference number. Print this out and keep it with your travel documents. You'll need to present it when you arrive in Iran.
3
Arrive at the airport
If you're using the visa on arrival option, you can do this at major international airports like Tehran Imam Khomeini (IKA), Shiraz, Isfahan, Tabriz, and Mashhad. Follow the 'Visa on Arrival' signs in the arrivals hall.
4
Go through the visa on arrival process
At the visa on arrival desk, you'll fill out a form, show your passport, return ticket, travel insurance, and accommodation details. Pay the visa fee in cash (USD or EUR is easiest). You'll be issued a visa stamp and then proceed to immigration control.
5
Pass through immigration
After getting your visa, you'll go through passport control. The officer will check your documents, take your fingerprints, and stamp your passport. Then you can collect your luggage and enter Iran.
