You need a confirmed return or onward ticket out of the Schengen area. Immigration officers at Spanish airports check this at passport control — have a printed copy or show it on your phone.Required

Visa required — no exceptions
Ugandan passport holders cannot enter Spain without a pre-approved Schengen visa. There is no visa-on-arrival, e-visa, or waiver. Apply at the Spanish Embassy in Kampala at least 4 weeks before travel.
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for 6 months after the day you land in Spain. If it expires sooner, renew it before applying for the visa.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for a Schengen visa at the Spanish consulate
Book an appointment at the Spanish Embassy in Kampala. Submit your application form, passport, photos, flight itinerary, hotel booking, travel insurance, and bank statements. Pay the €80 visa fee (cash or bank transfer). Processing takes about 15 days.
2
Wait for visa approval
The consulate may call you for an interview. Once approved, you'll get a visa sticker in your passport. Check the validity dates — they match your travel dates.
3
Arrive at a Spanish airport
At passport control, hand over your passport with the visa sticker. The officer may ask: purpose of visit, where you're staying, and return date. Answer clearly. They rarely ask for extra documents if your visa is valid.
4
Exit Spain before visa expiry
Your visa shows the last day you can be in Spain. Leave before midnight that day. Overstaying can get you banned from the Schengen area for up to 5 years.
