The 30-day tourist ETA cannot be extended in Sri Lanka. If you overstay, you'll be fined $25 per day (capped at $250) and could face deportation. Plan your trip carefully.
Apply early — don't risk it
While most ETAs are approved in 24 hours, the official processing time is up to 3 days. Apply at least a week before your flight. Last-minute applications can cause stress and missed flights.
Yellow fever certificate required
Because you're arriving from Uganda (a yellow fever endemic country), you must present a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate at immigration. Without it, you may be refused entry or quarantined.

Apply for the ETA online
Go to https://eta.gov.lk/ and fill out the application. You'll need your passport details, travel dates, and a valid email address. Pay the fee with a credit or debit card.

Wait for approval
Most ETAs are approved within 24–48 hours, but it can take up to 3 days. Check your email — you'll receive a confirmation with your ETA number. Don't book non-refundable flights until you have it.

Print your ETA confirmation
Print the approval email or save it on your phone. You'll need the ETA number if there's any issue at check-in.

Arrive at Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB)
After landing, follow signs to 'Immigration' or 'Arrivals'. Have your passport, boarding pass, and ETA confirmation ready. The officer will scan your passport, check your details, and stamp you in. It usually takes 5–10 minutes.

Collect your bags and exit
After passing immigration, collect your luggage and go through customs. If you have nothing to declare, use the green channel.
