US passport holders need an eVisa to enter Uzbekistan in 2026. The application is entirely online and takes about 2-3 business days to process. You must apply before you travel — there's no visa on arrival for Americans.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply for Uzbekistan eVisa
Apply online at the official Uzbekistan eVisa portal before you travel. The eVisa is usually processed within 2–3 business days and costs around $20 USD. Print the approval letter and carry it with your passport — immigration at Tashkent airport will check it.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for entire stay
Your US passport needs to be valid for the full duration of your stay in Uzbekistan. Unlike some countries, Uzbekistan does not require 6 months of remaining validity — just enough to cover your trip. Airlines at US departure gates may still ask for 6 months, so check with your carrier.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Uzbekistan
Immigration officers at Tashkent International Airport routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed copy or a digital version on your phone showing your flight out of Uzbekistan. If you're overlanding to a neighboring country, a bus or train ticket works too.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Carry a printed hotel reservation or a letter from your host in Uzbekistan. Immigration may ask where you're staying, especially if you're arriving on a single-entry eVisa. A simple booking confirmation from Booking.com or a signed invitation letter is fine.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can cover your stay
Officers rarely ask, but having a bank statement or a credit card with a few hundred dollars available is smart. Uzbekistan is cheap — $50–$100 per day is plenty for most travelers. If asked, show a recent statement or cash in USD.Recommended
eVisa is single-entry only
The eVisa allows one entry. If you leave Uzbekistan (even for a day trip to Kazakhstan), you'll need a new eVisa to come back.
Passport validity counts from entry, not application
Make sure your passport has at least 6 months of validity left on the day you land in Uzbekistan. If it expires sooner, you'll be denied entry.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to e-visa.gov.uz and fill out the application. You'll need your passport details, a digital photo, and your travel dates. Pay the fee (around $20-25 USD) with a credit card. Processing takes 2-3 business days. You'll receive the eVisa by email as a PDF.
2
Pack your documents
Print a copy of the eVisa and keep a screenshot on your phone. Also save your flight confirmation, hotel booking, and insurance card. Have your passport handy.
3
Arrive at the airport in Uzbekistan
At Tashkent International Airport (or any other entry point), go to the immigration counter. Hand over your passport and eVisa printout. The officer will check your passport validity and may ask for your return ticket and hotel address. Answer clearly. You'll get a stamp and be let through. The whole process takes 5-10 minutes if you have everything ready.
4
Register with local authorities (if staying more than 3 days)
If you're staying in a hotel, they'll handle this automatically. If you're in a private apartment or with friends, you need to register at the local OVIR office within 3 days of arrival. Hotels do this for you — just ask at check-in.
